My name is James, but people call me James.

My favourite beverage depends on context. Coffee, single malt Irish whiskey, Pinot Noir (yeah, the movie "Sideways" turned me on to it).

Since I was diagnosed with diabetes last year, I'll probably skip those treats and go for some nice Windmill biscuits to dip in my coffee.

I'm from Kingston, Ontario.

Hi.

Natasja | 2 comments Hi everyone! My name is Natasja.

My favorite beverage is freshly made orange juice or red wine depending on the occasion. My most read author would probably be J.K. Rowling (probably not so original, hm) but I've not found a favorite author yet so the quest continues.

I'm not much of a sweet tooth but I'll probably take cake over cookies and pies. I'm currently living in Belgium and I joined this group because I'm slowly but surely reading English classics and it would be nice to discuss some of them here!

Hello and welcome.
The hard part about reading classics sometimes is that people either haven't read them or read them years ago and don't want to talk about it. It's nice to have a place to rant at times, depending on the book.

message 155: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 2 comments Hi! My name is Jennifer and my nickname is Jennifer. I like wines, beers, sparkling water, regular water, and am working on cutting back on my diet coke addiction. I've read most of Jane Austen's and Thomas Hardy's novels. I like cookies, then pie, then cake. I'm from Austin, Texas.

message 158: by Doug (new)

Doug (dougcvetkovich) My nickname is Dougie.
My favorite beverage is Diet Coke.
My most read author is Clive Barker.
I lean towards pie, but I can be swayed.
I live in Madison Wisconsin.

Let's get reading!

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) | 5 comments Doug wrote: "I lean towards pie, but I can be swayed."

By pie.

message 161: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie (mk3133) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Marjorie. I am addicted to drinking mello yello. I have a hard time picking just one most read author but I love Josephine Tey's mysteries.

message 162: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Hi, Marjorie. I love Josephine Tey too! What’s the one with the twin brothers? It has the greatest twists!

message 163: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie (mk3133) | 2 comments I think Brat Farrar is the one with the twin brothers. The Franchise Affair is my favorite. I just bought a set of her works are planning on eventually rereading all of them.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Marjorie wrote, “I just bought a set of her works and planning on eventually rereading all of them.”

What fun! Last year I reread most of Margery Allingham and some Michael Innes, and fell in love with British mysteries of the first half of the 20th c. all over again.

I like russian classics and authors like Oscar Wilde and Jane Austen.

message 170: by Allyson (new)

Allyson Hi everyone, I'm Allyson. I'm an American expat living in Australia who can not imagine life without a book in my hand...truly, I panic if I walk out of the door without some form of book with me. :-) A few years ago, I decided to tackle the BBC Best Reads List. I thought it would be a fun to-do list to get a bit of culture, but I never thought it would have such an effect on the kinds of books I enjoy. I still haven't finished the list so I am excited about joining this group to discover new classics and finally finish the remaining books.
Oh, and my favourite beverage...close race between a really great flat white coffee and a glass of pinot noir. Always happy to eat anything chocolate, unless it's my mother in laws blueberry pie made with wild Maine blueberries. Look forward to reading with all of you.

message 171: by Colin (new)

Colin (colinpunt) Hi, everyone. My name is Colin, and I like the classic chocolate chip cookie over cake or pie. My favorite beverage is a toss up between chocolate milk and Newcastle Brown Ale. I'm originally from South Dakota, but live in Wisconsin now; I've spent my adult life circling around Minnesota like water going down the drain. Being from South Dakota, my most read author is Laura Ingalls Wilder (I think I've read everything she's written but the newly-released Prairie Girl). However, my favorite author is Jorge Luis Borges. Every single thing he wrote, whether fiction or non-fiction and no matter how many times I've read it, just hits me so hard.

Allison ༻hikes the bookwoods༺ (allisonhikesthebookwoods) Hello everyone. My name is Allison. As for my favourite beverage, my cup of tea is a cup of tea. My most read author would probably be a toss up between George R.R. Martin and J.K. Rowling because, well you know. I love cookies, but I certainly have no issue with cake or pie either. I'm from Newfoundland, Canda.

Hello. I have read very little from either author there. (Though I did go through the practically required Laura Ingalls Wilder stage when I was younger, it was very abbreviated.)

Hello. You have no idea the pain it is causing me right now to not make 1,000 jokes about Canda.

Allison ༻hikes the bookwoods༺ (allisonhikesthebookwoods) Oh dear. Spelling mistakes are my biggest pet peeve. Feel free to make fun of my stupidity. It was just a typo though. I swear I can spell my own country's name. On good days anyway!

Ha. There are some days I wish I could change my country's name, but I usually don't go far enough to attempt it. I am such a pedant sometimes I feel like I should get a shock collar to stop me from correcting people.

message 178: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (mishasbooknook) | 1 comments Hello! My name is Traci, and I LOVE all kinds of teas, but especially white tea and herbal teas. My favorite author is Jane Austen - I'm a sucker for period romance.

I'm a personal fan of cake, but I can appreciate a good pie and a delicious cookie, too.

I'm originally from the Orlando area in Florida, but I was raised in Tallahassee, so my go to answer whenever anyone asks me about my hometown I always just answer with "Tallahassee". Makes things easier than trying to explain where I was born.

message 179: by Abigail (new)

Hello Traci. To be honest, Florida was enough information, because I'd be luck to be able to find Tallahassee on a map of Florida. My middle school teachers spent much time pounding the state capitals into my head, but very little on any actual locating skills.

message 183: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 2 comments Hi everyone, I'm Leigh, and I go by Leigh.
My favorite beverage depends on the weather and the time of the day, so it's a bit complicated. At the top are coffee, tea, and anything with rum in it. I have gluten and lactose intolerance which is a pain, but I have a couple of great muffin recipes to get me through my sweet cravings and other than that I take pie - pumpkin pie made from scratch with no lactose or gluten.
I'm an American expat and I live in Switzerland with my husband and kids. One of my favorite books is Watership Down. Looking forward to the group reads!

message 185: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 4 comments Hi. My name is Debbie. I'm a English teacher, unrepentant coffee-addict, and writer from New Zealand. I was read Jane Austen the most often of the classics writers and I also read and re-read a lot of P.G. Wodehouse - particularly the Jeeves and Blandings books.

My beverage of choice is the mochaccino and as to the matter of cookie, cake or pie, I'd choose whichever one had chocolate in it.

I was born in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. I tried out to be an extra in Lord of the Rings but didn't get cast. I'm one of the few New Zealanders that hasn't got to be a hobbit, elf or orc.

message 188: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Hellooo everyone!! My name is Maggie. My favorite beverage is Mt. Dew and sweet tea. My favorite adult beverage is coke/whiskey. When I say sweet tea, I mean tea that has the sugar put in the tea after brewing and then put in the fridge. I am from Mississippi (which explains the pre-sweetened tea). My most read authors are Mary Kay Andrews and J.K. Rowling. I love reading classics, but need a little "easy reading" sometimes like Ms. Andrews provides. And to answer the question cake, cookie, or pie...ALL 3 please and thank you! Hope everyone is having a very happy Friday!!

message 189: by Charlotte (last edited Apr 11, 2015 07:00AM) (new)

Charlotte | 6 comments Well hello everyone!

My name is Charlotte. I like drinking chai, white & green tea and black coffee.
I'm from The Netherlands, I live near Amsterdam.
According to Goodreads my most read authors are Edgar Allan Poe and Oscar Wilde (but that's only because I've shelved tons of short stories seperately, ha).
I'm not really one for cake, but I can't live without cookies. Cookies with white chocolate and cranberries are the absolute best. I imagine people who chose pie or cake have simply never had one of those.
Anyway, looking forward to reading with y'all!

It happens. The app hates my phone, so I just deleted it.

message 196: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone! I'm Ellen, and my favorite beverage is champagne (but nothing fancy). It's hard to pick a favorite/most read author, but if I had to narrow it down, I'd say Wally Lamb, Stephen King, Roald Dahl, and David Sedaris.....in that order.

PIE, most definitely.

I'm from North Carolina and have lived in my hometown my whole life. I look forward to graduating in two weeks....so I'll have more time to READ!!!

message 197: by Kat (new)

Kat | 2 comments Hi everyone! My name is Kat, and I'm from Australia. My favourite beverage is peach tea! I read quite widely so I don't really know who my most read author is, but I'm a big fan of Donna Tartt, Shakespeare (of course!!), Allen Ginsberg, and so many others. I like cookies the best... or maybe cake. I can't wait to read some more classics here!

Alex Loren (alloren) | 1 comments Hello all! My name is Alexandria but I go by Alex. I'm currently located in Miami, Fl and I'm a coffee addict. Dostoevsky is probably my most read author; however, I wouldn't call him my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of cookies, cake, or pie, but I love tiramisu! (Is that a cake?) Nice to meet you all and I'm looking forward to reading the group picks!
