Cindy I am Cindy from South Dakota. I have been on goodreads for a year in other groups. I love to read the classics old and new. My favorite authors are Daphne du Maurier and Agatha Christie. I also like to read short stories, ghost stories are my favorite. I have been looking at your bookshelves and like what you read. Looking forward to the discussions.

Hi, Everyone,
My Goodreads name is MMG, but my real name is Megan (pronounced Mee-gan). My favorite beverage is wine. My most "read" author is actually the children's book author, Brian Jacques (the Redwall series), because I've read so many of his books to my son. Authors I love: Michael Chabon, Frederick Exley, Esther Freud, John Irving, Tom Robbins. Cake, pie or cookie? I'd definitely same I'm a cookie person. I'm originally from West Texas, and I currently live in Upstate New York. This looks like a fun group!

Feel free to pick and choose. Sometimes you're just not interested, or too busy. That's why we leave the forums up to have people still post on whenever they get around to it, sometimes months or years later.

Jess (jlporter) Hello everyone!

I'm Jessica, from Orlando, FL. I'm an avid reader but I've always been predisposed toward the classics, and I was on the hunt for a friendly and active book group when I found your community.
My current list of personal favorites is Hesse, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy and Flaubert, in no particular order. I'm excited to make all of your acquaintances, and hope that I can contribute something positive to the group. :)

Amy Brydon | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Amy. I'm from the West Michigan area. Despite my hometown's affinity for breweries, my favorite drink is coffee. To be honest, it's more of an addiction. Picking a favorite author is along the lines of picking a favorite child: difficult, but not impossible. Just kidding. My most-read authors are mainly those of the British and Russian classics. However, some of my new-found favorites include Barry Schwartz, Daniel Kahneman, and Paulo Coelho.

message 318: by Candice (new)

Candice Hello everyone,
My name is Candice, and I joined this group just recently and I am looking forward to participating a lot!
My favorite drink is currently water. It is my best friend at this point because I just had a baby 2 1/2 months ago and I am already trying to get rid of this baby weight. I am 24 years old, married, and I have two kids. I am originally from Corona, California and I now live in Topeka, Kansas. I am passionate about art, I would love to write a novel someday, and I like to read.
When it comes to reading I am a fan of many different authors but I usually tend to stay within fantasy, romance, and YA books. However, I want to change this by reading different genres and breaking out of my comfort zone. I look forward to the book discussions and to meeting new people.

George Paul | 2 comments Hi all, love the group agenda here. Hopefully, I can add some knowledge or good discussion topics. Thanks for allowing me to join. Here is an excerpt from my bio that sums me up. Thanks again.
So, where do I start? I guess the best place would be around 2nd or 3rd grade. Who remembers those monthly book club newsletters the teacher would hand out for Scholastic Books? I'm sure many of you do, considering what site this is. So, this was me. I would run home from school the day the newsletter came out, and the minute I got home I would sit down with my Mom and go over what books to order. Of course the total would be around $50+ because I wanted just about everything. My mother would say NO, but eventually we would get the order down to a more reasonable $10. The very next day I would be the first to hand in my order form to the teacher. Then I would WAIT. WAIT. And WAIT some more. Seemed liked forever, but when my books would arrive a few weeks later, the teacher would have that unmistakably marked box out & would hand me my books. FOR ME, IT WAS LIKE CHRISTMAS DAY!

Milagros | 2 comments Hello:

My name is Milagros, and this is the first time that I join a reading group. I like the books so much, whatever its genre, fiction, romance, drama, fantasy and so.

I like music, the movies, and hang out with my friends. I find it hard to choose an author. I think all writers in their novels leave a part of them, that stays with me when I finish read a novel.

I remember those Scholastic book order forms so fondly! I did much as you did; run home and then pour over them, choosing so many books. Then Mom would sit down with me and we'd narrow the list down a lot. Such great memories!!

I'm very sleepy currently, as I'm just doing a social media and email check before bed. If I ever had an intro, it was a long time ago. I'm one of the mods of Classics Without All the Class. Oh dear. Interesting can be one of the most dangerous words in the English language. I'd like to say I at least comport myself reasonably on the bookclub's accounts, even though you can't tell who's posting where. Eleonora Fresina (eleonorafr) | 1 comments Hello everyone,
My name is Eleonora and I'm an italian student of economics for art, culture and communication.
Probably my favorite author is C. R. Zafon and my favorite book "The Shadow of the Wind" while my favorite movie is "The Legend of 1900".
I can't live without books, movies and, obviously, coffee.

Now I'm doing a research about book-based movies with a focus on "The Great Gatsby" and I'm hoping that you would share with me your opinions filling a short survey (From the Page to the Screen). I think you might find it funny.

I forgot, I went to an high school for classical studies and I like all the classics from the ancient Greece to today, so I think I will enjoy this group.

I love beer and cake and for some reason love reading ("suffering") through classics as English is only my second language. Jane Eyre took me 6 months at age 17 to read. Allison Wilke Hi! I'm Allison, originally from New Jersey, but now living in Rhode Island. I'm so glad to be here! Yay books!
Anyway, I am going to seem boring when I say that my favorite beverage is water, but that doesn't mean I'll turn down a beer, wine, or tea! My most read author is probably John Steinbeck, although I've read Jane Eyre enough times to Bronte to contend for the title as well.

And finally.... it's a tough question, but I have to go with pie. Pecan pie.

Excited to explore more!

message 335: by Josh (new)

Josh (jaygold) | 2 comments Hi everyone!

New to the group. My interest in books is eclectic, ranging across all sorts of genres and flavors. I've recently gone on a modern classic binge, finishing To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of Flies, Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World, and a few more. I plan to continue this binge until I've satiated my modern / classic appetite.

A couple recent reviews of mine are below.

Brave New World: review.
Fahrenheit 451: review.

I just started reading The Hobbit and How to Read Literature like a Professor.

Looking forward to being a part of the group.

Linda (lindadol74) Hi, my name is Linda, I'm from Nevada (born and raised in California), and I love to read the classics. They're what I mostly read, but I love to get in some historical fiction, usually recommended by my sister. My favorite drinks are Diet Coke and coffee, and I would love to have some cookies with either one. I think I've read a lot of John Steinbeck and Jane Austin, but I try to jump around. I'm excited about joining this group.

Hello!
You don't have to answer all the questions, silly. The questions are just there to give people a jumping off point.
Good luck with the goal of reading more classics. However, a little variety is always best with reading, or else even the most exciting series can get dull.
I feel your pain when it comes to food allergies. You really to get used to it though, I promise. Living with limitations does not mean boredom, it just means you have to be on guard a bit more.
Welcome.

Reading Whimsy | 2 comments Hi Everyone,

What is your name or nickname? Rhea

What is your favorite beverage? Coke - I know it's bad for me

Who is your most read author? I would have to say J.K. Rowling since I read all the Harry Potter books.

Cake, cookie or pie? They are all so good, but dutch apple pie with vanilla ice cream and caramel takes the cake :)

Where are you from? Grew up in the Midwest

I am joining this group since I'm way behind on the classics. I feel like I went to a bad high school or something since none of these books were assigned reading.

Hello Rhea!
You're always going to be way behind on the classics. They have a head start of hundreds of years! I always thought of myself as a bookworm, and enjoy completing reading lists and other little challenges like that. But unless you get the luck of reading all day long and having food etc. magically appear in front of you for a hundred years, it is never going to happen.
That got a little too deep. Oh well.
Welcome.
