kvon | 563 comments Are many S&Lers voting in the Hugos this year? Care to share your preferences?

I'm still reading some of the novellas, but so far I'm all for Ancillary Justice, also the Lady Astronaut (MRK made me cry. In public.) I'm not sure drama, I'm for Gravity and Orphan Black.
any of the short stories stood out for me.
In drama, I'm for Gravity and Orphan Black.

Online voting is due by July 31.

Aidan (adribbleofink) | 53 comments As a nominee, I fell like it might be in poor taste to reveal my ballot, but I'll be watching this thread with interest.

:)

If you are voting (or even if you're not), I hope you pay attention to the "Best Fanzine" category, which includes some fantastic blogs/writers. I've released my Hugo Packet contribution for free on my blog, A Dribble of Ink, if you're interested in giving it a look: http://aidanmoher.com/blog/2014/05/ne...

Aidan (adribbleofink) | 53 comments @Louise — One thing I've noticed each time I vote/nominate for the Hugos is that the more difficult the category, the better. There are some categories this year where my vote for first place was easy (like Best Novel and Best Presentation Long Form), and others, particularly in some of the categories you've mentioned, that I've slaved over my votes, yet still feel unsatisfied because I'm having to rank such great work in third (or even fourth) place sometimes. Having that sort of depth in a category is a great testament to the quality of work being produced in the SFF field (fiction and non-fiction) these days.

terpkristin | 4407 comments I don't remember who I voted for but I have finished my ballot. I didn't vote in all categories.

I did NOT vote for Ancillary Justice, I hated that book (and didn't really care for the author, either, in the various interviews) like I haven't hated a book in recent memory. I think I hate it more because of all the praise it's getting. I figure either it or Wheel of Time will win. Without WoT and the long-term heartstrings it's pulling at, AJ would sadly win.

John (Nevets) Nevets (nevets) | 1903 comments I'm not voting this year due too a first world issue. My bank won't allow my debit card to be used for out of country purchases, and it was too lazy to go through sending in a check, or getting a pre paid credit card. I'll be back on board next year, like I have the last couple. For some reason I even had a hard time nominating this year, even though I should have been able to using last years credentials. Oh, well. At least Fiona got the Pro Artist nomination this year.

Has anyone heard if they are going to try and webcast the ceremony again this year?

Tamahome | 7222 comments They should release the unedited version of books for comparison. :)

Neil Clarke (clarkesworld) | 36 comments How about the art categories? I'm a huge (and biased) fan of Julie Dillon's work, so she's getting my vote.

Alain Fournier | 41 comments For best novel I guess I'll go with Ancillary Justice although I don't actually think that is the best novel I read last year just the best on the Hugo list. Best novella Equoid by Charles Stross best novelette The Truth of Fact, The Truth of of Feeling by Ted Chiang, best short story The Water That Falls On You From Nowhere by john Chu.
