Roberto Llamas (RobertoLlamasAvalos) | 2 comments Personally the design of the cover attracts me it's something i look for. Also if the prolog of the story interest me enough i'll buy it. Some times I hear friends recommendations and i'll give it a try.

message 2: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 137 comments I look at the cover. If it makes the book look interesting, I pick it up. Then I read the blurb. If it makes me want to read more, I'm sold.

message 3: by Tasha (new)

Tasha | 119 comments If it exists, I'll probably read it. I'll read anything, cereal boxes, shampoo bottles, even Twilight

message 4: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 137 comments I read Twilight and enjoyed it, Tasha. But we're all different. :-)

message 5: by Allison (new)

Allison Janezic (allilj) | 52 comments A cover may grab my attention but it's the synopsis that will decide if I will read a book. I also take other reader's reviews into consideration.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I like twilight too

message 7: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (libisann) | 26 comments I agree with Roberto...the cover draws my attention and then I check the summary or the beginning of the book. Friends are also good sources of ideas, especially for older books or those with confusing covers (sometimes the cover doesn't match the feel of the book at all).

message 8: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 137 comments Yes, Allison. I sometimes read reviews and if they aren't good I might leave the book. I have a friend who always reads the worst reviews first so that she can learn about a book at its worst before she reads the better ones and decides whether or not she's going to read it.

message 9: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (waterspout) | 46 comments I buy a book when I feel like reading that type of book atm or it's a sequel to a series I've started and liked. Otherwise, they don't hold much appeal and stays on the shelf.

I like books that have good characters (which are basically those with depth, and those whose irrational acts are explained logically).

message 10: by Lina (new)

Lina (linakhalifa) | 1 comments The first thing I'm attracted to is obviously the book cover, it sort of lures me in. If it seems interesting, I'll read the summary at the back of the book, if I like that and I have time on my hands, I read the first chapter of the book and see if it got me or not, but if I don't have time I'd just go check the reviews on that particular book.

message 11: by chloe (new)

chloe The first that draws me to a book is the cover. Then I'll read the synopsis and maybe the first couple pages. If I think it's something I'll like then I'll buy it. Sometimes I'll read other peoples reviews too, but it's mostly the synopsis that sells a book for me.

message 12: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (booklover_04) If it has an intriguing cover or if I've heard good things about it, I may then look at the synopsis to figure out if I would like it. Usually I don't buy books but I go to the library instead.

message 13: by Nicolas (new)

Nicolas Fernandez (iamnikf) | 49 comments If the cover is pretty to me, then I buy the physical book, but if it isn't, I buy the ebook, even though when I buy a new book (or ebook) all I care about is the synopsis.

message 14: by L (new)

L Hodgins (sunnyanddinostomp) | 87 comments I get drawn in by the title, grab the book and read the blurb. If I like it then I'll instantly want to read it. Sometimes I read the first few pages if I'm still undecided, or I'll walk away, look at some other books and still be thinking about that one book.

message 15: by notchloemarie (new)

notchloemarie (chloesworld) Lynne wrote: "I look at the cover. If it makes the book look interesting, I pick it up. Then I read the blurb. If it makes me want to read more, I'm sold."

That's like exactly my book buying routine, thought I was the only one!

message 16: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie (kenziesnow) When I'm just browsing I usually start at the cover/blurb and get the book if I like it.

If I'm trying to find a specific type of book I usually look at/watch reviews of books in that genre and then read the blurbs from the books once I find them.

message 17: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (ilvermorny) | 1 comments usually I find a cover I like then check goodreads to see if its any good. or if a lot of booktubers have been reading it so I can keep up with conversation

message 18: by Ren (new)

Ren (renma) I first start off with the title. Then the book cover. Then I'd flip the book over and read the summary. If I end up liking the summary, I'll buy it. But if the book doesn't appeal to me in one of those stages, I put it back to where I found it.

message 19: by Tina (new)

Tina The cover interests me at first (all I buy is paperbacks) then I read the back and if the first few sentences interest me I buy it , if not I put it back and keep looking!

message 20: by s.shadereads (new)

s.shadereads First of all if the cover catches my interest I'll pick it up to check it out. I also love the first little quote on the cover, if that catches my attention I'll read the back. If I find it interesting I'll buy it.

message 21: by Angie (new)

Angie (nerdqueen7) | 30 comments 1. If the cover is really pretty and i want want it.
2. If its not in the library
3. If the snippet catches my attention
4. If I love love love love the story
5. If its one of my favorite books.
6. For a collection for a series.
7. If I need a book in a real hurry.

message 22: by Pipoy (new)

Pipoy | 54 comments If the prolog is nice and If I ran out of something to read. A nice cover adds up too

message 23: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Thomas | 32 comments Most of it comes to who the author is. When I get drawn into an author's books, I look for other books written by him/her. There are other times it comes to the description, especially if I'm looking something "fresh."

message 24: by Danielle's Books (new)

Danielle's Books (daniellesbooks) I'll read anything by an author I have read before and liked. If I have never read anything by the author before I go by cover because it catches my eye. I normally go for fantacy books because I've always loved magic and mythology.

message 25: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (ejlesny) | 7 comments The cover must draw me to the book. Also if the title is mysterious or up my ally then its perfect. But after that process I must read the synopsis so that I know the book is something that I'm going to like. I can't just buy the book because of the cover, I don't like unworthy books on my shelf.

message 26: by Tina (new)

Tina too numerous for me to count! lol

message 27: by Evelyne (new)

Evelyne If the cover looks interesting to me, there is a good chance I'll buy the book. Also bookrecommendations from booktube convince me to buy or read it.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually buy the books I've already read from the library to add to my collection, but I work at a book fair in exchange for free books so I pick them based on the cover and/or summary. Sometimes I even read the first chapter if it's not too long.

message 29: by Lina (new)

Lina | 539 comments Well, there is a rule, don't judge a book by it's cover, when i go to the bookstore i look for books that have a good and interesting plot, no matter if the book cover is ugly or pretty.

message 30: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresaanne92) In hardback I look for a long book (due to the price. if it's 300 pages or less I'll just wait until the paperback is out or borrow it from work), paperback I don't care about the size because the price is usually less then $10. Covers deff attract me first, but pretty covers aren't a requirement. I like fantasy/adventure so as long as the plot sounds good then I'm in! I look at the goodreads rating too! :)

message 31: by G.G. (new)

G.G. Marshall (ggmarshall) | 2 comments The cover blurb mainly. If I find it confusing or cliche I won't read it unless it is really cheap. If it's an author I know and like I will buy it or if someone I know recommends it. If it's an interesting cover blurb I will buy it and try the book.

message 32: by Emily (new)

Emily | 4 comments While I try not to judge a book by its cover I do find that I am more likely to read the back of the book if the cover catches my attention.

I also like big books and books apart of a series. I don't read too many books that are not part of a series.

Whenever I go to the bookstore I usually pull out my phone to check reviews of books i think I might like. Big bookstores no longer have chairs or couches that allow you to sit comfortably and read the first chapter so I rely on reviews to get a better idea of what the book is about and why people like/hate it.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm pretty book shallow so sometimes I won't pick up a book if I'm not a fan of the cover. Usually I pay attention to the title first and then the blurb on the back, and if I really like the cover than I'll read the first chapter or few pages of the book while I'm still in the store. If I'm not even remotely interested I tend to put the book down. I actually don't read many stand alone books, but I'll definitely give more a try in the future

message 34: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (aseriesofpages) | 17 comments A good cover and interesting title is more likely to make me read the blurb. If I like the blurb, I read the first few pages and if I don't like the first few pages. I keep looking.

message 35: by Mariem (last edited Feb 02, 2017 01:22PM) (new)

Mariem | 22 comments Okaaaay,Let's be honest,I wouldn't deny the fact that Covers have always lured me into buyin' books. I simply can't control the urge of gettin' the book if the cover is pretty ,I tried my best to get rid of this habit but no I couldn't.
I also choose my books accordin' to what is written at the back of it ,if the sypnosis match my interests then I wouldn't be able to control the thirsty monster within me until I get it
Finally I choose my books accordin' to authors ,for ex ,If I liked a book written by X I would buy other books written by the same authors because I always believe that a talented author would maintain the same level of creativity or get better

message 36: by Luana (new)

Luana (thegirlwholived_) | 5 comments I usually have a really long list of books to buy and I always upgrade it and even if I usually put on that list books that I hear everyone talking about, if I see a book in the bookstore that I might like, I'll also add that book on my list. But for the books that everyone is talking about, even if some say it's really bad and some say it's really good, If it's very popular I'll read the back of it and if it sounds really interesting, I'll usually watch some reviews on Youtube about that book. I do that because I don't like spending money on books that I'll most probably don't like. Also, the "Don't judge a book by it's cover" quote or whatever it is doesn't really apply to me. Even if the plot of a book sounds good, if it has a bad cover I probably won't buy it.

message 37: by Theresa (new)

Theresa The cover art is key...I think it tells a lot about the content of the book...the synopsis is my next indicator...not only in content but writing style...and of course if the book falls into one of my favorite genres:)

The Book Crusader (thebookcrusader) | 15 comments All I need is an interesting summary and to read a couple of paragraphs of the actual text. This method has backfired, however, hence why I have so many books on my shelves that I've rated either 1 or 2 stars.

message 39: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 5 comments Sometimes when im Tumblr, some bloggers will post specific quotes that will catch my interest so then i immediately want to buy a book, covers may make me pick up a book but its all down to the synopsis.

message 40: by Suzi!!! (new)

Suzi!!! (suzievelyn) I'll usually pick up something that has an intriguing or pleasant cover, an interesting synopsis, or something that I've heard of before, like Harry Potter (which I loved) or The Hunger Games (which I also loved)-basically books that are popular or that I know have been popular at one point. . .and then the hype just sort of faded years after the movie adaptation was made and hated by various fangirls and boys (and I'm not really sure what book I'm talking about any more, but I know that at one point during that statement there was a specific one-I am Number Four, I think).

The books I love are usually either YA fantasy, dystopian, or contemporary-not sure if I have any sci-fi favorites. They are commonly tragic at times and romantic, but like in the case of Harry Potter, aren't always both. And I know it's completely cliche, but they usually always have a dark-haired, attractive male who has misfortune in his life (the title of honorary dark-haired attractive male has been handed out to a few-and by a few, I mean Jace from TMI). I've found that magic really attracts me as well.

message 41: by Emily (new)

Emily Allen (emilywrites_) | 140 comments I care as much about the cover, it's really the genre and the synopsis and the genre that will draw me in (:

message 42: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 160 comments If the cover comes across as beautiful or the synopsis as interesting then I get really intrigued and buy the book. The title also plays a role for me to get interested in the book sometimes. The genre doesn't play as much of a role. Because even if a book is not of my favorite genre but it has a lovely cover and title and sounds good then I buy it anyways.

message 43: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Li | 5 comments Like many have mentioned before me, I am also attracted by a good cover, title, and well-written synopsis.
Recently I've been gravitating towards recommendations by others. I also check Goodreads ratings. If it is 4-5 stars, then I will most likely buy the book (provided that I like the synopsis). If it is 3-4 stars, I may consider depending on the content. If it is less than 3 stars, then I will definitely NOT get the book.
