Cool thread... I'll participate once I catch up on my backlog of 20 ratings/reviews... I think my stats are similar to Scott's with a much heavier 4-5 star ratings result...

Thanks X2. I hadn't noticed it until now but the fact that my 1* + 2* = 5* and my 3* and 4* are a wash is really interesting. I know everybody rates differently but I wonder if there will be a similar bell curve for others.

Also the 5*'s can comprise our group's GR award winners once more people respond.

I have really gone off of reading new releases. Just can’t push myself to read new releases unleash they finish a series. Of the 8 2017 Novels I read 6 finished series, 1 brought a series UTD and 1 started a series(thought it was standalone).

5*
Kings of the Wyld
The Stone Sky
The Core
The Walking Dead comics issues 27 and 28
Monstress, Vol. 2: The Blood

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5358 comments I tend not to read as many new releases as there's huge holds on them at the library. I have to really be invested in the author or series to bother with a new release.

Total books read: 77
2017: 4
Most read author: Ilona Andrews

White Hot 5*
Oathbringer 5*
Silence Fallen 3*
Snapshot 4*

Generally, if I'm reading a new release that's not a debut, I'm 75% more likely to enjoy it and rate it highly. A vast majority of these are continuations and series enders. A few debuts though, all of which were rated highly.

Published 2017 works read: 24
Percentage of books read: 19.8% (24/121)
5.0* - 5
4.5* - 4
4.0* - 7
3.5* - 1
3.0* - 4
2.5* - 1
2.0* - 2
1.0* - 0
Average: 3.73

5*'s
Twelve
Oathbringer
The Legion of Flame
Assassin's Fate
Snapshot
no surprises here

<2.5
Buried Heart
Obsidian and Stars
Into the Bright Unknown
all YA continuations I really wasn't in the mood to read but did anyway.

Published 2017 works read: 12
Percentage of books read: 12% 12/100 (including the two I'm reading now and will finish before the year's end)

4* - 4

2* - 2
1* - 2

I joined Netgalley this year to see what all the hype was about and then found out that people didn't really want to give me books because I only review on Goodreads and I live in Korea. I ended up entering for a bunch of books I would never buy just for the sake of entering and those accounted for all of my 1 and 2 stars.
After finding out that Netgalley will further limit books given outside of the States, I decided it just wasn't for me.

Percentage of books read: 24.27% (42/173)

5* - 25
4* - 16
3* - 1

Average: 4.57

5* Highlights:
Oathbringer
The Stone Sky
Beard in Mind
White Hot
Legend Has It
And the Rest is History
Bound
Windwitch

5* novellas:
Of Things Unknown
Strange Dogs
Down Among the Sticks and Bones

The 3*: Secrets in Death

The first time I started making this list, it was almost all 5 stars books... I was in my 5 star shelf (and there was one mis-shelved book in there)... this list makes more sense... most new releases this year that might have ended up lower rated didn't get read...

I gave up on Netgalley as well.

You're definitely much more liberal with the ratings than most Iain or alternatively you're much better at picking books. :)

I think it's a bit of both.... I rated Faithful and Fallen strongly despite complaining while reading... same with Sevenwaters... Buddy Reading can boost books by a star I think... and I'm already generous with my 4-5 star ratings...

Rob (nefariasbredd) | 2418 comments Published Works 2017 Read: 9 (5 graphic novels). I

Oathbringer
Deadhouse Landing

4
The Collapsing Empire
The Walking Dead, Vol. 27: The Whisperer War
The Walking Dead, Vol. 28: A Certain Doom
Saga, Vol. 7
The Mystery Knight: A Graphic Novel(well new in this format anyway)
Strange Dogs

3
Aphra

I think I need to start issuing more "3's".

Had most of my year buried in the Esslemont Malazan Empire Series and reading everything Cosmere I had left unread prior to the Oathbringer release plus Old Man's War, and other older materials. I wouldn't be surprised if I add a few books to this list before the end of the year. I want to start the new year without all my "currently reading" (except Harry Potter which I read to the kids at night) books done. I'm stunned I haven't even bought the new James. S.A. Corey yet after having bought each prior book the day of release.

I guess a good thread to start, if it hasn't been started already, is regarding what releases people are looking for in 2018. (Alternatively known as books that will stop me from completing the incomplete series challenge).

I've got 31 books in my 2018 new release shelf so far... altho I only expect about 28 to release... and that's mostly Urban Fantasy and other things I read before joining this group... I don't have things like the new Steeplejack book or Ravencry in my TBR yet, to name a few...

Good thing I've started speeding up my audiobooks... I'm going to need the leeway to squeeze in anything random, at this rate... 64 Buddy Reads + 31 new releases is already nearly 100 books... and that's mostly Buddy Reads through June...

I haven't gotten that far but off the top of my head all of the below are series I'm currently up to date on that will have new books released:

Iron Gold
The Infernal Battalion
Age of War
Thunderhead
A Reaper at the Gates
Wrath of Empire
A Veil of Spears

Beyond this we'll see.

I have so many books that I already own but didn't read yet that a book must come with great recommendations for me to read it as soon as it was published.
