I see it! ;-) Story's good so far though I do miss them being full time at the Pennyfoot...return jaunt is next best thing.

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments Merry Christmas, PIs! I realize that most likely no one is going to read this today, but as I just finished chapter 7 I want to start the discussion while it's still fresh in my mind (plus all my people are asleep and it's nice and quiet around here - lol!). This is the first Pennyfoot book I've read, and I can already tell that I'm going to go back and read others (when it was a hotel). That being said, our heroine/protagonist Cecily seems to have quite the nose for mystery and has thrust herself (despite Hugh's request otherwise) into the investigation of Wortham's untimely death. Did he trip and fall into the well, or was he aided along by someone with malice in his/her heart? Methinks the latter.... ;-)

It is a good series, Nicole. I think you'll like it!

Hugh is a bit of a disciplinarian esp. with the staff. We'll see if he lightens up a bit but somehow I doubt it. lol

Actually, Hugh (I still call him Baxter), though appearing strong, seems to do whatever Cecily asks him too. I am further along in the book and this is especially noticeable.

Agreed! Although he really does try to assert himself he just can't seem to stick to it.....but she does have rather an independent streak in her!

Good for Cecily! And I too regard hubby as Baxter more often than Hugh.

Seems the death is no accident but we sort of figured so. And as his widow indicates, the blames lies somewhere with the Pennyfoot.

This Christmas read has me wanting to start the holiday over again. At least two weeks previous. It seemed to linger throughout Dec. then "whoosh!" it's mostly over with. But I'm still celebrating best I can. How about you lot? Still celebrating or ready to take down the garland?

Though I'd like the season to last a little longer, the way it is now, I'm ready to pack things in until next year. All the decorations are still up, though, and the outside ones will stay there until its warm enough to take them down. Right now, it is -1 here at (though not IN) my house in Pittsburgh!

Mark, did you get any of the crazy snowfall? We didn't have any here (DC area), but I'm still hopeful! p.s. My decorations will stay up until next weekend. They're too pretty to take down just yet, plus they make the house warm and cozy!

Tina, I want to go back a week or two as well - where did the time go?!?

I've trouble letting go, Pghfan lol but will deal. Outdoor lights will come down in due time. Tree will stay up a few days after Near Year's but I'll only run tree for a bit after New Year's.

Yes, leave the lights 'til spring thaw. OMG, -1. Wish I could send for you and plop you on a beach here in SOFL. Then again, you may be enjoying the winter wonderland there. Actually, I'm jealous. I'd be hearthside with a warm brandy or hot cocoa and a good mystery! Enjoy!

I don't know, Nicole. It feels so different these last few years. Just seems to go by so fast!! Yet it's the same amount of days, hours. I don't get it.

Yes, just two more weeks and I think I'd be ready to move on. ;-)

So Cecily has her posse at the ready. lol Love how the help is trying to adjust to being guests. That must feel odd but oh, so nice. ;-)

Nicole, No we didn't get much of the snowfall, about 2-3 inches is all.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this here before, but I was born and raised in Erie, where they DID get the huge snowfall. Apparently about 60 inches in four days. And they are scheduled for another foot, tonight into Saturday! I'm glad I no longer have relatives in Erie I needed to visit for the holidays!

Poor Madeline...but uh, oh. Cecily cannot resist. Seems she headed over to the farm. :-/

And LOL, Nicole, some neighbors on our block still have outdoor lights lit. We do, too. I took our scattered sprinkle light in (or whatever it's called) and left the string lights up and with the others, throw the switch. I'll probably knock it off after this weekend. Christmas tree lights are also still lit nightly. I love the lit up corner esp. when reading my mysteries and having my tea or cocoa! Yeah!

Nicole (nicolevickers) | 1814 comments I'll take Christmas decorations down this weekend, but will leave the "winter" things up through February. The house just looks so cozy this time of year! :-)

Nicole, I agree! I've taken down all the inside things but left the outdoor tree lights up, because it is just too cold to remove them! I'll take them down when it gets above freezing. As I write this, the temp in my back yard is minus four! And I leave the electric candles in the windows up for another month or so, since, as you noted, they look so nice in the cold and dark winter.

Sounds like a plan, Nicole, Mark. And the electric candles are really appropriate on any winter's eve. Even if not, they are beautiful! Cozy!

Stay warm, PI's. Be well.

This was the first year I didn't put I my electric candles - one was broken and I need to order a replacement for next year! Thanks for the reminder, PIs!

Aww, Nicole. Well, if you start about early fall, you can have your lovely electric candles up for winter 2017 -18. ;-)

Brr! We came up a few degrees here in SOFL but yet they claim the chill factor is lower than yesterday. I'm just chilled in eve/overnight/early morn. Rest of the day comfortable. lol

Thought I'd get my Jan. title in today now they moved it to tomorrow delivery. Who delivers on Sunday, anyway?? Amazon I take it. Oh, well. One more day. We'll see about that. ;-)
