Jim Vuksic | 1227 comments Imagine a world in which there is no war, crime, hunger, poverty, inequality, prejudice, bigotry, envy, or greed. Everyone, without exception, has access to the exact same quantity and quality of food, clothing, housing, medical care, formal education and social advancement opportunities. Being different is not just tolerated, it is considered admirable.

Now imagine that, in this world, the words father, mother, son, daughter, sister, brother, family, marriage, government and religion also do not exist, because the concepts themselves do not exist. The inhabitants are occasionally transported to places they never knew existed or are required to do something without having the slightest idea of what they are doing or why it must be done.

Can you imagine such a world? Well, I did. If you should choose to visit it someday, I hope that you enjoy reading about the world of Levels as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Brian Foster (bwfoster78) | 191 comments Jim,

I kinda skim read through this thread. I have to say that it didn't do a lot for me. Whereas a complete scene would give me some feel of the story and characters, quick quotes just feel disjointed. Not sure what I was supposed to get out of this?

Sorry.

Brian

Brian,

Your observation is absolutely correct. The synopsis is vague.

Since the commercial vendors that sell the novel often provide a sample of at least one chapter, the intent of the overview in message 1 is designed to hopefully stir the reader's curiosity sufficiently so that they will seek more information on their own. The actual results are mixed. So far, 975 Goodreads members have placed Levels on their To Read shelf. How many chose to do so based upon this strategy, I could not say.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. I appreciate it. Don't ever be sorry for making an astute observation. Some of my best ideas have come from others.

Jim

Brian Foster (bwfoster78) | 191 comments Jim,

Glad you found the comment helpful. My thinking in making it was: often we put stuff out there and get no feedback as to how it's being received.

Best of luck with your sales.

Thanks.

Brian

Unfortunately, just as the many skilled and talented people in the background of the movie industry seldom receive the credit and acknowledgement they deserve from the viewing audience, so it is with those who help convert a manuscript into a commercially viable book.

I hereby acknowledge and offer my sincere gratitude to those who patiently worked with me and taught me how to create and promote a book of which I could be proud.
