Charlotte (caelestial) | 23 comments Hi, I don't know if it's okay to post a topic here? If not, just tell me and I can delete it. Anyway, I'm new and I've noticed something. There's a lot of confusion (from me as well as other members) about certain things like badges, challenges, the wall of fame, and TBR topplers. Maybe you could make an explanations thread somewhere talking about what these things are for new members? This would be super helpful!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hi Charlott! I think if you keep looking you will find a YLTO Glossing the Glossary thread that will explain all you want to know. Welcome to the group.

As Cherie said YLTO! Glossing the Glossary will help out. I'm going to look it over right now to be sure the subjects that you mentioned are covered.

We do sometimes have a language of our own, based on some discussion experience about books or our diverse membership culture.

If you don't find an explanation in the Glossary, just ask in that thread. We will willing add it AND probably re-hash the discussion again!☻

Mariab | 3059 comments Well, let me explain what a toppler is: Everyone "brings" their books to spotlight, from their (real or virtual) shelves, and for a week, two or more of planning they (we) rejoices with their content -in the proper style of "The Miser" by Moliere- counting them and re-counting them, seeing them gleam, while watching with eager -and a little envious- eyes the "possessions" of the others, and at the same time catching the opportunity to increase the list of what "must have or will die an agonizing and unglorious death"
And having in the process A LOT OF FUN ;-))))

Such a passionate description of the "gophering" before the Toppler and then the jealous nature of desire for what everyone else has!☻

Is the fun in the reading or the gathering?

Well said.

Mariab | 3059 comments It is the gathering, of course.. . Even by reading we are gathering: thoughts, feelings, ideas, dreams...
