Heidi Peltier | 71 comments Hi, everyone! I read somewhere that a good way to get your book noticed is to get it in front of book bloggers. I have cold contacted 30-40 book bloggers (taking special care to read their submission requirements and only submitting to those who accept self-published authors and are interested in my genre). So far NONE of them have answered me. I tried to keep my query short and to the point with links to my books, links to the book trailer on YouTube, and the book synopsis below the query. I understand that a lot of them (or all of them) have a TON of books on their to-read list, but their blogs say nothing about not taking more submissions (I check that too). So why aren't they answering me? At least to say "no thanks, loser" or something...anything?

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 491 comments Have you checked your junk mail? Just a thought since it seems strange that no one would answer you. :/

Dante Craddock (DanteCraddock) | 114 comments You're not the only one to have this problem. I've contacted numerous book bloggers and have had only a handful respond.

message 4: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peltier | 71 comments Yes, I've checked my junk mail too. Nothing.

message 5: by Mellie (new)

Mellie (mellie42) | 644 comments I believe some book bloggers have had issues with indie authors, so don't respond for the same reason agents don't - in case it leads to ugly email exchanges :(

You just have to move on and keep trying.

Caitlyn Nicole | 3 comments I review books on my blog and would love to do one for you if you are interested :)

message 7: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 4 comments Feel free to send it to me. I'm always looking for new material to review

message 8: by Becky (new)

Becky Johnson | 31 comments I have a fledgling blog. I don't know how much exposure I can get you, but if you send it to me I would be happy to review it.

K.P. Merriweather (kp_merriweather) | 276 comments Are author's blogs important? I don't have much to write about or say, and when I send off to book bloggers, I get rejected because I don't have a blog. I don't even write on FB or twitter much. >_< I think because I'm not always on social media is hurting my sales....

It really doesn't matter to me if you don't have a blog. Interesting that that would be a deal breaker for some bloggers.

K.P. Merriweather (kp_merriweather) | 276 comments my publishing company site name is Majestik Multimedia .

I don't really blog, as I hate talking about myself. my site keeps track of the occasional update when the computer gremlins aren't breaking the machines again. -_-

But if anyone wants free(!) books to read and review, I'm always willing to toss doorstoppers at anyone's way. I have sci-fi, fantasy, and psychological rotting over here... take your pick.

I think that "reviewer overload" for book bloggers is all too common today. The sheer volume, quantity, of self-published books inundating book bloggers is staggering. It's now a grim fact of the book marketing landscape. What used to be, even two years ago, a great way to get some notice of one's new book, get a discussion going, has nearly vanished under the glut of just soooooo many books.

message 14: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Veracruz (melissaveracruz) | 96 comments I placed a message out there that I do want to do indie reviews. What we should remember is:
a.) Even though I don't get a ton of review requests, I get enough that I'm set for some months. So I assume high-profile book bloggers are INUNDATED.
b.) No one wants their feelings hurt over an honest review. As one person put it somewhere on Goodreads, indie authors have developed "speshul snowflake" syndrome. I got blogged about angrily over my review. Sorry! I think that sets indie authors back a few decades. (And I'm Indie!) And it scares bloggers away!!!!
c.) Even bloggers are allowed to be picky...how do you tell someone who didn't read all your review policy that they didn't read all your review policy? And without hurting their feelings? I like romance. Period. Any good story, but with romance. And editing. If it hurts to read, I'll stop reading. I reserve that right.

Not that any of these are you, 'cause I don't know you, it simply sets the TONE for the possible no-reply issues you (and I) are having. I've decided against the blogger-review route for now for my own book. But I do offer reviews which post to Amazon and Goodreads and those are good to have.

And cue the unhappiness.

message 16: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 491 comments I agree with Melissa 100%. It doesn't take long to be booked for months.

I'm not a blogger myself, but I like to review indie books. I mostly read indies. (I'm booked. :P) Yet, even if a book is in the genre I read, there are times that I have the feeling I won't like it. I don't know if it's a sixth sense or what, but I do. Now, how do you tell these authors you don't want to read their book?

On Goodreads, in some threads, a woman offered to review indies. Because she mentioned she'd prefer not reading m/m or f/f books, she got walked all over, called names etc.

Good thing most people won't react that way, but it's the 1 out of the 100 who scares people into finding it easier not to reply. :/

Melissa Veracruz (melissaveracruz) | 96 comments Exactly!!!

message 18: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 4 comments im lucky that i'm a really quick reader and i have the opposite problem - i now have 14 unfinished blog posts about books that i've finished but havent managed to write about yet!

as i said before im happy to read any work anyone wants to send my way - i love to have a pile of things to read and if anything anyone wanting me to review their work would be doing me a favour.

message 19: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peltier | 71 comments Thanks everybody for all these replies and to those of you who offered to review my book. I was out of town for a few days, so it's taken me a while to get caught up. I'll be contacting you soon.

Just a side note - I found some book bloggers in THIS GROUP on goodreads who said they love reviewing books etc. I contacted them last week, and haven't heard from them either. Maybe I smell bad?

message 20: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peltier | 71 comments I sent a message to Caitlyn, Jennifer & Becky. I wasn't sure if Melissa and Margaret were interested (no pressure; just didn't want to send if you didn't want it). Thanks again!

Ellie Midwood (elliemidwood) | 11 comments Caitlyn wrote: "I review books on my blog and would love to do one for you if you are interested :)"

Hi, Caitlyn,
My name is Ellie and I'm currently seeking for reviews for my new book "The New York Doll". This is a story of a young girl of Russian-Jewish heritage Mila, who came to New York in search of true love and the American Dream. But after struggling to survive and keep a roof above her head, she turns to an option that she never even considered before: she becomes an exotic dancer. On her way she meets a lot of people, both good and bad, and she depicts every single one of them with incredible honesty. She falls in love with the owner of the club, the powerful Italian-American mobster R., and now they both have to fight for their bright future together.
This is the story of love and hatred, of friendship and betrayal, and everything else that takes place behind the closed doors of a gentleman's club.

If you are interested in the full book, please e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll send you a full copy of the book.
Thank you!
