Hi Kayla, wishing you good luck with your goal! I joined this group last year hoping it would get me out of my reading slump and it did! Started out with a tentative goal of 12 books too, raised it to 24 during the year and ended up reading 46 books! I hope you’ll have a similar experience!
Happy reading!!

To tie in with my love of film, especially classic film, right now I am reading James M. Cain's "Mildred Pierce." This 1941 novel is the source material for the 1945 film version. "Mildred Pierce," starring Joan Crawford, is one of my favorite classic films. I am two chapters into the book and already the beginning of the story starts out much differently than the beginning of the film. I find myself picturing the actors from the film when reading about their respective characters in the book, even though the characters are described differently. For example, Veda Pierce in the film is a brunette, young teen, probably about 14 when the film starts and 18 when it ends. She is also described as having more titian-tinted hair in the book. Mildred herself is also a blonde, whereas in the film, it's a brunette Joan Crawford.
I look forward to finding out what other books I'll end up reading this year. If I end up reading a more involved book, sometimes I'll read "Nancy Drew" in between just to give myself a break. I started the series at #1 and currently, I am on #18, "Nancy Drew and the Moss Covered Mansion."
