Aides are awesome like that!
I slotted the Discworld book for Team Pyxies as they recommended Pratchett.

The other one, I had a quick look but didn't see a horse, but I might have missed one. Otherwise, we'll find something else for it to work :-)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments A horse is also an animal.... I'm not worried!

message 455: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Ah I skipped Milky Way since we're done with that one (unless we need to switch).

Missed the ones in Musca haha. Will add it to the spreadsheet :-)

message 456: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Eurgh... I'm not enjoying Crash & Burn...

I knew why I kept putting it off for ages. But I'm going to push through! I have 8 more days to finish it ;-) And then the series will finally be over.

I have this thing about finishing books and series, depending on how far I'm into the series when it turns to crap.

message 457: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Maybe it'll turn around?

You can do it! Mix up with a book you like too, if that'll help?

Yeah, I thought we'd done Milky Way. The other link for Fever Dream is that it's a translation from the original Spanish, so I thought that one of the many Man Called Ove would also work? or are you nixing that connection?

Mmmhh that could have worked as well. And Ove was definitely recommended a lot.
I put it with the horse now because I quite like matching the covers - but that's just me ;-)

Yes, I started reading Blaze of Memory on the bus this morning, so I'll read that whenever I want to rip out my hair with the other one ;-)

message 462: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments I like matching covers too, but I also like making sure we can use the books, so have to accept that alternative connections are possible, especially if it gives us more options to shuffle with later :)

message 463: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hehe true. Options are good to have, just in case!

message 464: by Cat (last edited Feb 20, 2018 04:58AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments ok, so I am not going to start Fever Dream today - reviews indicate it's best read when I can immerse myself in the hallucinatory experience, so I'll get to it later in the week.

In the meantime I've picked up:
The Frog Prince by KM Shea
F title
K / S author
Elle char
Henry char
#9 in series

for mini:
it's a fairy-tale retelling, so any of the Cinder recs (a fairy-tale retelling) would work. Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer
or, becuase I know you love a cover match, covers with single female (see Katie's list of them here, cba duplicating the splendid effort!); or with a frog / animal on them (haven't looked)
The Frog Prince (Timeless Fairy Tales, #9) by K.M. Shea

message 465: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Fairy-tale retelling sounds nice as well, so I slotted it in for that for Team Pluto :-) And used it to get rid of one of the Wild cards, which will then also finish another hand.

More and more slots filling up for the February mini challenge! Keep those books coming!! :-D

I'll post an update tomorrow with all the cards that are still open.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments UPDATE

1 week to go!! Read read read like the wind :-)

February Cards

Card 1: 10 - 5 left
Card 2: 6 - 1 left
Card 4: 7 - 1 left
Card 7: 7 - 1 left
Card 9: 7 - 1 left

Wild: 3 - 2 left

Basically, this means we still have 11 cards open that need to be read for before the end of the month.

Mini Challenge

Part One
Savana, Ashlee, Louise and I still have to finish our books for this. At least 2 of us will soon be done.

Part Two
6 teams are completely done. (Pyxis, Mercury, Venus, Milky Way, Carina, Pluto)
5 are being read for. (Grus, Triangulum, Musca, Sculptor, Jupiter)

That leaves us with 17 books that still need to be read, 11 of which will also be used for the normal Uno cards, which basically means we're going to need an extra 5 books that won't be used for our February hands.

I know saying we "only" have one week left sounds a little daunting with 17 books still needing to be read for us to complete everything, but I'm confident we can do this!! :-D

ETA: Actually, I've now been editing this so much, I have completely lost track of how many books total we still need to read haha. But from the way it's looking now, it will be a piece of cake to finish everything on time! YOU ROCK!

message 471: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments totally doable! especially if Katie stops playing in her sewage filled basement and starts reading again! ;-P

message 472: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Looool :-))

message 473: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments oh, I wondered if The Silk Roads A New History of the World by Peter Frankopan could be partnered, on cover basis, with any of:
The Language of Thorns Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic (Grisha Verse, #0.5, #2.5, #2.6) by Leigh Bardugo The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins - for circular type design on cover
She Rides Shotgun by Jordan Harper - title of Silk Roads -> book has road on cover

(I restarted it on 14th, after the announcement of the mini, so it's legit)

message 474: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hmm, at first glance, I immediately think Language of Thorns would fit. They have that swirly design that sticks out.

message 475: by Cat (last edited Feb 21, 2018 05:50AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments that's kinda what I hoped :)

now to remember which team....!

ETA: Musca

message 476: by Eldarwen (last edited Feb 21, 2018 05:53AM) (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Great! That means one more team is taken care of :-)

ETA: And it hasn't even been inserted for the cards yet, oops! One less card to fill, yay!

message 477: by Cat (last edited Feb 21, 2018 05:55AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments and I can cover the other half of Pyxis too next, as I'll be reading Six of Crows, which they rec'ed.

and it has an I char which'll help hand 9 out :)

For info: I'm about an hour off reporting a finish of Fever Dream, and have just under 4hrs of The Silk Roads to go

message 478: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Fantastic!

I'm pushing through with Crash & Burn and am halfway through already. If work keeps quiet for a little longer, I might be able to get another few pages read today and then hopefully finish that off tomorrow.

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Great, keep them coming, Louise! :-)

Deadlocked was one of those in the series I didn't enjoy very much. One of those towards the end where I was just thinking "alright, come on, end it already because you aren't in the mood to write these anymore."

Hope you'll enjoy it though :-)

message 484: by Eldarwen (last edited Feb 21, 2018 06:40AM) (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Hmmm, yes, I think that could possibly slide. Though that face isn't quite as partial as the others.

All of these have been added to our February hands.

I just haven't added Just like That by Nicola Rendell to the mini yet.
What do you think of this one for a match from Tucana? Nothing Left to Lose (Guarded Hearts series Parts 1 and 2 combined) by Kirsty Moseley
Both portray a certain amount of affection for the other person whether it's nibbling or cuddling/almost nibbling.

That's a good start already at least! Getting it all cleaned up is probably the most annoying part, the rest should follow easily enough. At least I hope so! :-)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments March is aaaalmost here!

COUNTDOWN

to March 1st when you can start claiming books for the March hands.

Any books you started in February but can't finished in February, you can finish in March and use them for the March hands.

message 494: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee | 370 comments Just a little update for my current reading...

I will probably be finishing A Flair for Chardonnay tonight. So far it fits...
1 - 1st in series
2 - LN Tremiato
4 - Title
6 - FN Sadie
8 - FN Elena
Skip - LN Kramer

For the first part of the challenge, I am reading Shopaholic Ties the Knot. This can work for a reverse (also read by Eldarwen) in place of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children , which I will not likely finish.

The new cutthroat sabotage has completely wiped out my To Do list for the rest of the week.

message 495: by Cat (last edited Feb 22, 2018 06:32AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments I hate to break it to you, but Shopaholic has two Es too, if you are hoping to get it done within Cutthroat...?

It's an arse of a sabotage, though, isn't it!

message 496: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 5004 comments Ashlee, if you prefer someone else pick up a book for the first part of the mini challenge, so you don't have to check for quite so many tasks to fit one book, we can arrange that?

Then you can pick something that fits the new sabotage and we'll be able to fit it somewhere in the second part of the mini?

Just offering, in case that'll take a bit of the pressure off to find something that's suitable :-)

Nice going for the Chardonnay! :-)
