If you happen to have read any of the books that are posted as completed, please give a shout out! :-)
We have 6 reverse cards, so we need to read 6 books someone else on the team has already read.
I started reading Marrying Winterborne for a reverse card as Katie has read it before.

Swimming Lessons

When I looked at it, I wasn't sure I saw blue, or enough blue, so I checked on tineye and apparently it's mostly grey rather than blue.
Shame!

So maybe if we can find another book that fits 1 yellow, we could even use that one for a reverse card.

I had a vague hope that the top background might just be a light blue, but am not shocked that it isn’t.
In other news, a cutthroat sabotage means I won’t be finishing my Very English Scandal until next Monday Brooklyn going well, though :)

Worst case, we'll take the unfinished ones off the spreadsheet and replace them with completed books :-)
What's the newest sabotage?

Happily we didn't get hit with the "mod has to have rated it 5*" one. That would have killed all my current books!

8 Feb
Fits:
Toibin author
Father Flood char
Eilis char
New York setting (I calculated about 2/3 in New York)
Kehoe char
I liked it very much. it's a gentle book, kind of passive, like it's main character, which means that you have to work a bit to understand motivations & emotions. But very evocative of the era - both small town Ireland and bustling Brooklyn. I recommend.

I do SRC, which ends at the end of Feb, and I am still 15 books off completion. 10 of which I have no idea what I'm going to read for. Feeling a little bit flustered there!

15 books is a lot to read still until the end of the month. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you'll be able to use at least most of your Cutthroat books for it!
SRC looks sooo soo daunting to me. I like the overall idea and the tasks are a bit of a challenge sometimes, which can be quite nice if I'm honest, but it's just SO many books!

Happily we didn't get hit with the "mod has to have rated it 5*" one. That would have killed all my current books!"
No "the" seems doable. Of course, I say that now, but whenever I get tasks like that I have only books with "the" on my immediate TBR ;-))

15 books that I can also use for Cutthroat? less so.
Something's gotta give, and I suspect it'll be SRC, as I've some stinker tasks left :(
and I've failed to keep in the running for Mod's Pet, having made an error in a post.

But who knows? You might be able to fit more in than you think :-)
Can you continue with SRC after February or is that the cut-off for the winter part?

Born Free
Don't know if Elsa the lioness can be counted as a character? otherwise, Peter is prob a character too. or, metadata says East Africa setting ?
For those playing along with my Cutthroat/SRC squeezing:
Cutthroat: 200 points - set in wholly in Africa, pub before 1980
SRC: 15 points - book is on Best Animal Rights list

I'm always a bit unsure on the animal characters, even if they're prominent in the book, simply because a character should technically have lines.
From the synopsis of the book, East Africa seems to be narrowed down to (mostly) Kenya, so it would work for Skip card - in case Peter won't turn out to be a character.

I've no idea why I decided there was a Peter char. There isn't.
Kenya setting it is!

Kenya setting it is! "
Lol ok! ;-)

I don't know about the physical copy, but my first reaction to the cover is red. For what that's worth.
though my first reactions have been wrong very often in the past. I am not a good opiner on colours!

I don..."
Tineye says it's only 34ish % red, the rest is orange and brown. :( But I will say in person it does look very red, and not orange at all...

Unfortunately, GR covers aren't always all that because they're photos and not the real deal. And that's what sometimes throws me - the only reason why I asked.
No worries, Cat! First reactions to covers like that are usually the best way to go! My initial one was red, too, but then I started thinking. Not always a good idea haha.

A while ago, we asked you to head to THIS THREAD to post three (3) favourite books/series, up to a maximum of five (5) for those of us who have a hard time deciding ;-), you would recommend to others.
As some of you have already guessed, this will in some way be incorporated into an upcoming optional mini challenge. (Nope, our lips are sealed still, we are not going to tell you what it is :-p)
However, a surprisingly large number of players have not posted any recommendations yet. Unfortunately, that might make things difficult for your fellow players as well as yourselves.
Please, please, post 3-5 recommendations in the above mentioned thread. If you don't, we may be forced to take unwanted action as a result.

Did you enjoy it, Leigh?

Could you post a proper completion post please?
Meaning, the book with the author (cover if you can), the date you finished it and most importantly, all the cards it works for with the reasons why it fits for those cards? Thanks!
(If you're unsure what I mean, just have a look at how the others have posted their finished books :-))
