Nice, this is the first edition of the book I bought as a child from a booksale at school for 25 cents. A Wrinkle in Time (Time, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle .

I have since picked up a few more editions: A Wrinkle in Time (A Wrinkle in Time Quintet, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle A Wrinkle in Time (Time Quintet, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle plus the rest of the series though I haven't read any more of the books yet...

Yes it's a spell out. We need to figure out the missing letters, so we know which ones we have to cover.

Normal rules apply - First letter of a title, author's name, character's name can be used.

also first letter of Series names, and first letter of things on the cover! :)

I still don't know 3 Across... if anyone has an idea, please let us know!
since I'm always up until late at night I'll update the March Mini spreadsheet tomorrow night so we're ready to go for the mini challenge on Wednesday morning (or whatever time it will be for you - there's a countdown in the mini challenge thread ;))

I can already tell you that there'll be lots of As + Cs to cover, but U & Y will be the harder ones to find!

Jenny | 2346 comments 3 across is Squatter. Never heard of it. But, as I have been reminded. Google is my friend. Amazing what you can find on line when you should be working. Bad me. I do love the fact that we can name objects on the book cover. That should men things much easier.
And, what's with all of the As?

hahaha i found a super long list of popular games on google, but I still couldn't find Squatter. I guess it makes sense though, finding out now it's an Australian board game...
I'm surprised they didn't use well known ones like Scrabble and Monopoly, but I guess that would have made things too easy ;)

Kirsten and I just talked about it too, and we have the same amount of letters :) she just went offline, but I think she can read a book for Q! and I can cover 4 :)

Sounds good. Thanks, I haven't counted up the letters yet. I do have a book that'll work for Q. But looks like I might need to focus more on the As & Cs. :P

Jenny | 2346 comments Laura wrote: "I missed everything today! So, you've figured out all the clues by now?"

I never thought of Ouija as a board game, but yes, the clues are solved. Let me know if you want to know what they are. (An evil friend and I used to use the ouija board to screw with the minds of some very gullible friends). I know. Evil. But fun at the time!

I think there should be an "i" in this list for Ouija? And an "e" for squatter?

like Laura already said, only books started on or after the 14th count for the mini challenge.

___

we ask you to please, when you finish a book, list as many letters your books could work for as possible :)

and let us know if you could cover U, Y, or possibly Q :)

message 673: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1144 comments I can cover Q, still looking for the others like Y, U.

message 674: by Kirsten (last edited Mar 12, 2018 05:37PM) (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 265 comments My Q book (that I mentioned earlier) is pretty short so shouldn't take me long.
The Queen's Silver by Wilma E. Alexander

Let me see what I can do for U or Y...

Edit: I have at least one Y but its a lengthy one so hopefully I can get the audiobook version (I'm currently in line for it at my library).
The Year of the Flood (MaddAddam, #2) by Margaret Atwood

I also apparently have a ton of U books, some of which include:
The Uninvited by Tim Wynne-Jones Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi unSweetined by Jodie Sweetin Unearthly (Unearthly, #1) by Cynthia Hand Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1) by Michelle Hodkin The Unquiet Past (Secrets) by Kelley Armstrong Unremembered (Unremembered, #1) by Jessica Brody UnWholly (Unwind, #2) by Neal Shusterman Utopia by Thomas More
Can anyone recommend any of these?

Laura | 1144 comments And I can cover Y!

message 678: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Christina,
The ouija story is so evil. Me and a friend, who both speak French pretended that we couldn't, and convinced another "friend" who also knows the language, that an old dead French mystic was communicating to him about his future. In french. This guy was way too gullible for his own good. He believed in spirits and that random dead people knew about his life. Easy target. We let him know much later that we were screwing with him. He did forgive us. Later.

I have found several A and C books, since the less common letters seem to be well on the way to being covered.

message 679: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments Do we know all the words yet? (because I don't as I always play the same 3 boardgames lol) A list with all the letters and how many times we need them would be nice.

message 680: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments Ok my phone didn't load everything, I just saw that someone already posted it. Thanks :)

message 681: by Kirsten (last edited Mar 13, 2018 02:12PM) (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 265 comments Ooh in the Questions thread it was noted that it is only one book per square on the crossword so only one book is needed for those squares where two words cross, not one for each word. That cuts down our total number of books to be read a wee bit!

CORRECTION: This was later taken back. How sad. So we are back to needing to read 58 books to complete the mini challenge.
