Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments ---this is my opinion---

Splinter The Silence, Hag-Seed, Nine Kinds of Naked, Dragonflight, The Sinner, The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove, Forgotten Secrets, A Reunion of Ghosts, The Eye of Minds work

Broken River does not work. it looks orange to me, even if tineye says it's red (it shows the colour a shade darker??)

Infinite probably works, but it could also be too orange, idk

I don't think The Fast Devides will work bc I honestly see a lot of black, but this could be a case for the other captains, and I'm also unsure about Hellbender and Insidious Intent (which could work though I guess)

... captain, would do you think? (and/or Kirsten?)

message 858: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Zekotic | 923 comments I'll have a look later when I get home :) latest tomorrow morning before work lol

message 859: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 265 comments I haven't ran any of them through tineye but I agree Broken River looks too orange to me, Hellbender seem too blue, and Fates Devide looks too black. (in my opinion - not having seen any of these covers in person.

The rest I think work for their labeled colours...

message 860: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 265 comments Jenny wrote: "So are we supposed to follow tineye or wait for a ruling from the mod group?"

I think the idea is to mainly go with tineye unless the results it gives are drastically different than what our eyes are telling us. If we disagree with tineye enough, or we are just too uncertain about agreeing with what results it gives us, then we take it to the mod group and see their verdict.

Jenny | 2346 comments Kirsten wrote: "Jenny wrote: "So are we supposed to follow tineye or wait for a ruling from the mod group?"

I think I would agree with that ruling- that sometimes the mod group can overturn tineye in principle, but the book in person can look very different from the digital picture of it. And, my guess is that the mod group is not looking at hard copies.
I agree with the consensus on Broken River- it is an orangey red. Hellbender has mainly khaki green- more than blue at least. Insidious Intent is very blue in person. Infinite- the audiobook looks yellow to me, but I will go with the mod group ruling. Fates Divide I actually am buying this week, so I will look at it closer when I have the actual book.

Thanks for the input. I will go with the ones that you guys say are fine first. I know others will cover color cards too, and that it is not all on me.

I've had a look through the books:

Should work - Splinter the Silence, Hag Seed, Infinite (according to tineye, and you can see it has yellow in it), Dragonflight, The Sinner, Hellbender (57.9% green according to tineye), The Lust Lizard, Forgotten Secrets, Insidious Intent (whale blue apparently), Reunion of Ghosts, The Eye of Minds (adds up to 63% blue)

The Fades Divide looks so black, and I can't quite imagine "Black Pearl" falls in the category of blue. Even though Tineye is suggesting it. I'd stay clear of that one. Broken River is orange to me.

I'd start with the really obvious ones. And I'm sure other people will be reading for coloured cards as well :)

¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ ¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪

How to play

⭐ For each task read you will receive 10 points
⭐ If you complete all 70 tasks* you receive 30 bonus points
⭐ If you complete all 70 tasks* you can shoot for "extra" bonus points by combining 2 tasks together. Each combined task is worth 30 points.
Example: combine day 11 Apr Barbershop Quartet Day

20. Read a book with B and Q in the title
by reading a book with B and Q in the title where someone goes to the hairdresser
You can also read from two different days, so, for example, choosing tasks 69 and 47 I can read a book with honesty in the text which has an orange cover.
~Your team can do a maximum of 4 "extra" bonuses.
~The same combined tasks can't be duplicated - i.e. the 8 tasks chosen for the 4 combined tasks need to be 8 different tasks from the list

* The following teams are only required to achieve 60 tasks, not 70, to get the bonus points and to be able to access the "extra" bonuses:
Betelgeuse
Triangulum
Pluto
Tucana
Ceres
-The 60 tasks are of your choice, they do not need to be in any order

⭐ Only books read April 12-30 will count for this mini challenge.
⭐Books started before April 12th, 7pm AEST do not count for this mini challenge.
⭐ The usual book length requirement for UNO applies.
⭐Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands.

Jenny | 2346 comments If no one else is planning to tackle a 500+ page book for the mini challenge, I will take it on with The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. by Neal Stephenson . It is plenty long enough, and high on my to read list.

Jenny | 2346 comments Have any of you guys read any of Anne McCaffery"s Dragonriders of Pern books? In making my running character list, I am tempted to add a couple of the dragons' names, as they are essential to the story. They don't talk, but they do interact with the human characters. Thoughts?

Also, for 41 and 42 in the mini, what do they mean by look alike covers? How close should they be?

message 875: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 1241 comments There needs to be dialog as well if I'm not mistaken. There was a similar question in the captain's group last week I think, I'll check later.

There's also been a question and example for the look alike books in the group which I can also tell you later (I'm just about to take a bath but will be on my laptop in 1-2 hours)

I almost forgot, but here we go:

1, "The rule has always been dialogue and meaningful to the story."

2, "Identical (there may be slight colour or different zooming, but it is clearly the same photo. For example: I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhon and A Ring of Truth (Henrietta and Inspector Howard, #2) by Michelle Cox )" which seems a bit insane to me x)

I think by them saying "originally" published on ____ date that they are referring to the first edition of the book, whenever the very first publication of the book was in any format (although usually it's first in hardcover). So [book:All the Light We Cannot See|18143977] wouldn't work as it was initially published on May 6th, 2014.
