The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion
ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2018
>
Team Eris

Team Mensa's Slave to Sensation includes a changeling (which is a type of fairy...)
Team Mensa's A Court of Thorns and Roses also references the murder of a faerie, also a location called the faerie lands
(will continue to look for others)

Ha! When I was looking through the thread I saw a few books and said, "Oh, this team should be one of our 3, which team is this?" And it was our team...

hah, we know the good stuff to recommend. :P

Oh, and I found a couple mentions of fairies and other mythical beings!

Well it can't be completely far fetched. E.g. connecting books by Tina Fey & Amy Poehler because they each have a name ending in a y... but beyond that there are still tons of connections to be made. ;)
As for other mystical beings I also see books about vampires, demons, satyrs, gargoyles, werewolves, dragons, hobbits, dwarves, elves, etc.

Hmmm...then they really shouldn't say this, "The reasoning can be of your own choosing. No matter how far-fetched it might seem, we will accept it as long as the explanation is good and, most of all, plausible." Good and plausible are subjective and that wording makes it seem like almost anything goes, except for what they mentioned won't work:
"- genre
- page numbers
- publisher
- date of publication
- Goodreads rating"

that's alright, I'm sure we'll find connections for Part 2 then :)

I know, it's all a bit subjective, but I'm sure we can make things work :)

Team Andromeda's The Shepherd's Crown has a fairy horde mentioned!
aaaaaand I'm pretty sure I can read The Vile Village for Team Haumea's My Sister's Keeper? both books feature 2 sisters and 1 brother. what do you guys think?
it would also connect to Team Andromeda's The Dark Is Rising Sequence because both books have crows (?) on their covers!
EDIT: started listening to Wishful Drinking on youtube which we can connect to Team Mensa's Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me (woman on "white" cover, both authors actresses)

There are three books I am interested in reading from team Musca, and two from team Pluto's list, so we should be able to cover the first part of the challenge with no problem.

Does anybody know/remember if there's a book from a Nobel prize winning author or about the holocaust recommended? (except for Night by Elie Wiesel)

Someone listed "The Book Thief", which is at least tangentially about the holocaust.
I will add

They Both Die At the End, from team Musca.
On to find weird connections for other books...

I am currently reading Dying In the Wool should link to Naked in Death team Sculptor
death / dying
both number one in a series

as Christina mentioned, we only need one more book for team Musca, then we have part 1 covered so far.

EDIT: oh, just saw Jenny's post... will see which one of us finishes their first book for part 1 first. Or are you more of a multiple book at a time reader?

Yes, I am one of those multiple book readers, but go ahead with the Musca book if you want, I haven't started mine yet.

The book I was mentioning that would also work for Musca is the sequel to the Musca book I just started (literally I am 5 pages in) so I won't be able to start it until I finish my current book.

I was home sick today, so I read and napped most of the day already.
Captains - are you double-checking that we got the teams right by referencing the recommended books thread? It's just such a jumble and I'm a little fuzzy today, but I'm pretty sure I got them correct.

Doughnuts and Deception
which would work for Part 2 for Venus, Sculptor, and Mensa (and probably more) because they all recommended books set in England.

there's an Agatha Christie book somewhere... And Then There Were None, Team Saturn!
and I asked my friend who recommended Inkheart for Team Venus - there are fairies in the book :)

And that makes three fairy books now, hopefully for three different teams. I didn't start the fairy book yet, but I'm going to add it to my notes in my phone.

Thank you!!

I am missing something. Where is that summary?

Mini challenge book from team Neptune,
Works for
1- first in a series
5- character Isadora
7- character Vandermere (spelling?)
8- character Emmett
9- title
Skip- character Kaya
Started Feb. 14, finished Feb. 15.

It's in the Feb Mini spreadsheet!

I already linked it, so you won't have to post it anymore :)

Yeah, when I read the word "summary", I thought there would be something more akin to a book jacket blurb instead of just the thumbnail photos of book covers. I dream big.
Do any of you know if there are any books for the 2nd challenge that take place in a museum? I have been thinking of rereading my favorite mystery series- Beverly Connor's series with Diane Fallon, and I haven't found a way to link it. Yet.

I don't remember a museum, but I will keep an eye out! I don't suppose anyone recommended Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler? ;)

Hmm, I thought I remember a museum in The Giver, but after some Google Books searching I am wondering if it isn't until later in the series. :/ Wasn't a main setting though...

we're doing well with the cards, though we still have 2 Reverse cards we need to cover. Those are the more difficult ones in my opinion
Edit: Only one more! Just saw that Nikki read the book I just finished :)
