Abhi (abhinavrupesh) | 54 comments My target book count for this year 2018 is 18.

Last year I have surpassed my 12 books challenge and this year is looking to be no less.

Hoping to repeat my success.

1/18 : Anthem by Ayn Rand

I've already finished my 1st book of this year, Anthem by Ayn Rad on Jan 5 even before joining in this club. So I've decided to mention it here as I don't want this book to be miscounted.

Anyhow I started my second book, Artemis by Andy Weir. Read a chapter yesterday and it looks compelling.

2/18 : Artemis by Andy Weir

I just finished Artemis by Andy Weir. I loved the book, but sincerely wished it could have been better.

I felt something is missing. The magic of the Martian. The magic of Mark Watney. It's worth a read though.

I loved it too when I read it many years ago. However, after reading a couple of Jane Austen's books in 2017/2018 I'm starting to wonder if I would love it as much if I were to read it now....

7. A book set in a country that fascinates you - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ✔️
27. A book set on a different planet - Artemis by Andy Weir ✔️
37. A book you meant to read in 2017 but didn’t get to - Anthem by Ayn Rand ✔️

Just finished reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen for the Quarterly Challenge and now I know why Jane Austen is revered so much. For her sheer class in writing style and how ahead she was in her time. A classic novel to the core.

Finished reading Crooked House by Agatha Christie.

What an unexpected twist in the end! Superb writing and kudos to Agatha Christie for maintaining the suspense till the last chapter.

Heard somewhere that Christie loved writing this book the most. Well, to confess even I did enjoy reading this gem the most out of her novels.

Only if there was a series on the lead character Charles just like on Poirot or Marple.

49. A book about a problem facing society today - Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand ✔️

Finished, at last, reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

All hail the queen, Ayn Rand! Believe me, when I say that this book took me 90 days of my life to complete. I actually scheduled my reading timings for Atlas Shrugged just so that I could spend more time reading it. If only there were few more pages to read!

I'm glad this book is finally over. I even wondered many a number of times thinking about when would I be able to finish it and move onto the next book. Now I regret it. That's what Ayn Rand does to you if you are a tiny bit of an egoist that you should be.
A living proof that philosophy too could be taught in a commercial way.

A nice, well-written and more importantly, a good message oriented book, this one. A great debut novel to start off with for the author, Angie Thomas.

What a fun read it was. Had a very lovely reading experience. I've read the author's debut novel The Accident Season last year, and I already knew she will be going places with such a talent that she possesses.

Loved the characters and though the main five protagonists have their own flaws, somehow they're perfect to me. The narration was so simple and also complex at the same time. I didn't realize that I would actually believe in magical realism. After reading this book, I had to question my beliefs.

Hope to see many more great interesting reads from the author. Thank you for this wonderful book.

Jakob (4841) Up until your read Spellbook of the Lost and Found all of your authors had one name that started with an A, just thought that was a funny coincidence.

What did you think of Little Fires Everywhere?

message 26: by Abhi (new)

Abhi (abhinavrupesh) | 54 comments Haha! Yes, I had finally managed to move to C from A.

I loved Little Fires Everywhere very much. Every character has huge importance and to me that's the most satisfying part.
