Hard SF discussion

I read this back when it was first released. I thought it was good, not nearly as good as The Martian, but good.

Just finished this today and left a review. I'm glad I experienced this book myself, and didn't read the earlier reviews first. In the end it was enjoyable and fatiguing at the same time. Don't want to give anything away but although the protagonist is female, the book is clearly written with a masculine perspective. Not necessarily a bad thing, but when that perspective seems to be an adolescent wise cracking male even though the protagonist is a young adult woman you are left with a strange sort of mashup. I'll leave it there.

I agree, not as good. Of course Hail Mary is wonderful and I really enjoyed the short story collection The Egg.
