Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments Woah! Wonder what kind of algorithm got us there?! Maybe lots of recent activity?

message 7: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12921 comments Maybe because we such a different approach, while other groups are more straightforward. Kudos to our founders and admins who have created something so fun and unusual.

LibraryCin | 11690 comments That's cool! I wonder how they pick 'em!?

It's appropriate, I think, that this comes on our 10th anniversary! :-)

Jason Oliver | 3046 comments LibraryCin. I was starting to wonder if anyone got it. Maybe there are not many Steve Martin fans on here.

message 12: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments I asked to be featured on Thread asking what groups should be featured.... ;)

I requested it like four months ago and I guess it was finally our turn! I think we stay there for like 2 months.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments No kidding Anita, At least with a member pick we are not completely at the mercy of the randomizer.

I’m not sure if I would have stuck around if the first tag was biker dudes in my first month (or whatever that one tag was that didn’t win. ;-D)

message 17: by Elise (new)

Elise (ellinou) Funnily enough, another one of the featured groups, Pick-A-Shelf, seems to function the same way as PBT!

message 18: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9281 comments Yes, when we were on Shelfari one of our members started a group based on the same concept over here.

message 19: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments Yeah -- it's the same concept, but they have a user pick the shelf instead of voting. Personally I like all the interaction about voting and planning what to read. Those are the threads that I read every time.

PBT certainly does it better though ;)

I think GR likes PAS reading challenges as there wasn't a request to be featured on that thread & I had actually interact with GR on twitter abt these challenges... or they may just put random groups with large membership on as Featured? dunno how that works...

Thanks to awesome moderators, first and foremost, but also to a great group of people who are kind and agree to disagree on books.

That's very kind of you to say, but obviously you did a lot right - - look at the size of your group. Interesting that you didn't request to be featured, and that both groups were featured at the same time. I wonder if they look more at the activity level . . .I'm in some big groups where the activity seems pretty minimal.

message 23: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 1641 comments PAS was on the old featured list so have been through the cycle a couple of times but they said the old list was scrapped so there's probably some algorithm they look at for featuring groups.

And truthfully, all I do is create the reading challenges (where my strength lies) but you guys actually really moderate discussions which is FAB (I'm quite reserved as a person so I'm not too good at this) ;)
