The Copper Cat trilogy by Jen Williams
River of Teeth duology by Sarah Gailey
Temeraire by Naomi Novik
The Broken Empire by Mark Lawrence
Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan.
Harry Potter series by JK Rowling. Finished a reread in 2018.

Unsure about continuing
Snow Like Ashes trilogy by Sara Raasch. Not sure how bothered I am about reading book two now that so much time has passed. However I do own book two so might still give it a go.
Scourwind Legacy by Evan Currie. I really loved the first book in this series but have now forgotten quite a lot and I'm worried that will impact enjoyment of book two. I might put this series on hold until more book have come out and then binge read them.

Good to know I'm not the only one. I liked Strange the Dreamer for the first 75% and then worked what was going to happen at the end and didn't like the direction that I knew book 2 would be taking so decided to end it there. What were your reasons for abandoning it?

The Copper Cat trilogy is one of my new favourites!! I highly recommend it. I will just say that because book one was originally written as 4 short stories the pacing is not quite on point. But that isn't an issue for the other two. To be honest I wasn't really reading for the plot anyway (although that is excellent as well), it was the characters that kept me hooked. They are some of my favourite characters ever and I became very invested in them.

I thought Strange the Dreamer was ok, but it wasn't as compelling as I thought it would be. I guess I was expecting something spectacular because of all the high ratings. Not a whole lot happened in the book either. I think Laini Taylor is great at creating worlds, but I don't like what she ends up doing with them. I didn't like the direction the story took either.

I'm glad to know the Copper Cat series is good. I've been planning on reading it for a long time.

Thanks Bill. Sorry didn't see this before. I loved the whole series. I know there were a few books that were slightly weaker in terms of plot but the relationship between Laurence and Temeraire kept me gripped every time. All the dragons were just so full of character and so worth reading in my opinion.

That's great to hear :) I really want to read this series one day.

Hailee | 2762 comments I've edited my list a bit. I've identified a few series I was to try to complete in 2018 and then moved a couple of series to my newly created 'On Hold/Might Restart' list.

Hailee | 2762 comments I'm wondering what I should do about continuing A Son of Ice and Fire.

I want to watch the TV series finally, but only after reading the books (the ones that are out anyway)

I read book one well over 10 years ago and book two just before the tv series came out so about 2010-ish and now I'm thinking I should probably just start the whole series from the start rather than just reading a recap on both books...

Anni | 5066 comments Maybe you could do it on audio? It always helps me with re-reads I don't really have time for.

message 16: by Hailee (new)

Hailee | 2762 comments I've never really got on with audio books but I've never tried it with a reread. If my library has it I may give it a try. Thanks 😀

Hailee | 2762 comments Update

Restarting:
Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwall. The Last Kingdom
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. A Game of Thrones

I've made the decision to restart both of these series. I'm putting the Saxon Series back on the shelf for a later date and I have treated myself to an lovely new boxset edition of Game of Thrones and I'll restart the series as soon as I have the time.
