Anita Pomerantz | 9287 comments Please vote for the tag you would most like to read for February at the following link:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BSMGC6P.

You may click on the answer choices in the survey to see a listing of books that fit each tag.

Remember, you may cast up to a total of 10 participation points for your choice. Everyone gets one vote for free so please vote even if you don't have any participation points!

Some of you have earned the one time right to use 20 participation points as an award for completing one of our challenges. If you have that right, feel free to exercise it. You must have the 20 points saved in order to expend them.

You can see how many participation points you currently have in the spreadsheet below.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Happy voting! Please cast your votes by 12 pm EST on 1/23.

Many thanks to JGrace for supplying one of our three tags this month!

Note: If no one choice receives more than 50% of the vote, people who chose the least popular choice will be asked to recast their votes for one of the remaining two options.

Lyndsay (lyndsaylouwho) Just joined this group today- but I voted! Where do I see the challenges you have listed so I can try and earn points? Also, are there other ways to earn points as well?

Welcome Lyndsay!

The easiest way to earn points is to read books that fit the theme (tag) for the month and review them here. For each book, you get two participation points.

If you read reviews that do not fit the theme and post your review here, you get 1 point.

We also have games and activities throughout the year and participation points are often used as prizes.

If you look in the folder entitled "2018 Challenges and Activities" you can see what we have going on at any given time and whether or not participation points are available for those.

Here's the link to that folder:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have additional questions!

Easy vote for me.

message 18: by Jason (new)

Jason Oliver | 3047 comments Voted. I don't seeing the one I picked winning, but I have a few. books picked out for each category.

message 19: by Sue (new)

Sue (mrskipling) I voted! I'm new to this group but really like the notion of participation points - what a clever idea. Perhaps by next time I'll have a few of those myself!

message 20: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12931 comments Voted, and I must say quite typically for me. I certainly don't expect my choice to win, but I am hoping, hoping... Aren't we all? I do have something to read for each, but one category vastly outweighs the others and excites me more. If a certain category I didn't pick wins, I may just have Jason choose my monthly tag book this time around. Or let you all vote off of a few reluctant choices.... Now that would be atypical of me. But that's what this group is about - expanding ourselves. Happy Voting and a good week to all from one of the Supreme PBT fans.

Denizen (den13) | 1138 comments Three excellent choices! I simply don't have a favorite.

It tells me I voted but I certainly never intended to. I never gave my name. Now I can't look at the choices under any of the tags.

message 22: by Susie (new)

Susie In an unprecedented event I’d be happy with any of them! I’m just using my one free vote this time.

Hi Denizen,

I'm mystified. There's no vote showing from you, nor is there any vote with no name associated with it.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to reset it so you can access the survey again. Can you try rebooting your computer and giving it another shot? Or perhaps you have another device with which to access the voting?

If that doesn't work, just private message me with your vote.

The choices are: Asia, Speculative fiction, and epic . . .

You can search the choices by going to the following URL and typing in the tag.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8422 comments I voted ... I like one more than the others but have something for each.

message 31: by Cynda (new)

Cynda I voted. Then I went to Survey Monkey "keep the party going" llace, so I exited. Not important to the group, I hope. If it is, the I will participate as part of my membership.

I can read any of the 3 selections, so I am good. Glad to be here 😊

message 33: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12931 comments Only if that tag unfortunately wins....

message 34: by Cynda (new)

Cynda I voted right after seeing my name had no points. Having just joined, I would have none. Then after I voted, I do not see my name on the list of participation points, not just zero, but disappeared.

Please help.

Cynda, every member of PBT gets one vote, even if they have no participation points yet. You'll build them up as you start writing and posting reviews in the group. Enjoy!

Nicole | 684 comments Does anyone else feel like 'speculative fiction' just seems to be a catch all for science fiction, fantasy, dystopia, magical realism, etc?

I'm incredibly surprised at which tag I actually voted for this month! I went into it thinking it would be my LAST choice, but after looking at what I had already on my shelf ... Should be an interesting month regardless!

I commented on this above - there seems to be a lot of similarity between two of the tags

I will admit that I opened the survey and was perusing the shelves when I realized that I don’t get to vote anymore. :-D

I’d be pretty happy with any of them..... speculative fiction is definitely a catch-all with lots of variety.

Hi Cynda!!

Just a couple of things that may be helpful for the future.

- If Survey Monkey asks you to complete any further surveys beyond ours, please don't feel that is in any way necessary. They try to promote their own surveys, but those have nothing to do with our group. Definitely no need to fill them out!!

- In terms of participation points, these are calculated during the first week of the month. So since you are brand new, you wouldn't have any nor would your name be in the spreadsheet. Once you contribute a review, you will get some and your name will appear in the spreadsheet! In the meantime however, ALL MEMBERS get to vote . . .you just are unable to weight your vote until you have some points.

message 42: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9287 comments Speculative fiction:

spec·u·la·tive fic·tion
noun
a genre of fiction that encompasses works in which the setting is other than the real world, involving supernatural, futuristic, or other imagined elements

So when you vote, that's what you are casting your vote for. Sometimes the books on the Goodreads list are not as representative of the tag as we might like . . .

message 43: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 684 comments Thanks for the definition Anita! This will help screen the books that are on the Goodreads list if this tag is chosen. I imagine quiet a few will not legitimately qualify.

message 44: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) Can I revote, lol?

message 45: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12931 comments Can I just state that while I have books for all three, speculative fiction is my least desired. But I’m not worried. If it wins, I’ll be curious to see what Jason picks for me.

message 46: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2597 comments I voted. Threw extra points at my top choice but I can read anything, I just need the time. That seems in short supply this month. :-(

message 50: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) Nah. I was just kidding. I like the one I voted for. But now I’ll be happy with any of them. :D

Although, can I change my participation points down to just the freebie?
