Guillermo | 3 comments Hi guys, I am a fan of Tolkien and Martin. I love the way how they created their worlds and how the story is developed around the characters and the world in general(i mean regions cultures politics etc). However, since I have read all their books. I am looking for a Series of books that have the same elements. Epic fantasy and world building. I have in mind The Ryria Revelations series but I am not sure. Any suggestions?

In my opinion, no one does it better than Sanderson in Stormlight Archives. :)

We just started Buddy Reading Malazan a few weeks ago... that series takes it to a whole nother level than Stormlight Archive, but really just throws you into the deep end for awhile...

First book is Gardens of the Moon... we'll be doing Deadhouse Gates around February 17th

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Along with the Ines mentioned I would also recommend memory sorrow and thorn trilogy by Tad Williams which has exceptional world building which you might like

Saul the Heir of Isauldur (krinnok) | 209 comments I second Memory Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Williams.

I'll also recommend Anathem by Neal Stephenson. It's technically not fantasy, but it's hard to really what genre it IS. However, the world building is on par with Tolkien, and Anathem is a stand-alone

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1971 comments Anything that is not post-apocalyptic (especially not set after our world has collapsed) sounds good to me.

I like worldbuilding that does not take too many pages of description. The last series that impressed me was the Dreamblood Duology by NK Jemisin.

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 5380 comments Anything by Brandon Sanderson. He's the best at world building and imaginative magic systems.

I'm moving this to the hodgepodge folder in case you need to find it again. :)

idiffer | 765 comments I'm not a world-building guy, and I'm barely a fantasy guy, so I can only name Senlin Ascends (original but limited to one big tower) the web-serial Mother of Learning and Harry Potter (which EVERYONE has read).
But if anyone's looking for sci-fi mind-blowing worlds:
Accelerando
The Golden Age
