Romanticbookworm | 410 comments Hi MountainKat: Here are your picks for the month:

1. George Washington was the first President of the United States.
He served as president from 1789-1797 and as president was responsible for establishing many of the precedents still used today in the presidency such as the cabinet system and the term Mr. President.
🎂 Recommend a book that is the first in a series or a stand alone book.

TBR: Bound to Submit (Blasphemy, #1) by Laura Kaye (First In Series)
NEW: The Rocker That Holds Me (The Rocker, #1) by Terri Anne Browning (First in Series)

2. Washington was the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War leading the US to eventual victory.
In 1976, George Washington was posthumously appointed to General of the Armies of the United States, restoring his position as the highest ranking officer in US history.
🎂 Recommend a book with a military character (current or former) or where some kind of battle takes place. This could be a physical battle between countries, individual or group factions, or non-physical battles that involves war of words (courtroom, business, etc). Or recommend a book with a character who likes to win their battles.

TBR: Four Nights With the Duke (Desperate Duchesses by the Numbers, #2; Desperate Duchesses, #8) by Eloisa James (Battle of Wills)
NEW: Miss Mechanic by Emma Hart (Battle of wills)

3. George had wooden teeth.
Not really. He did suffer from dental issues for most of his life and had several sets of false teeth made, including a set made from human teeth (eew) but never from wood. Most of his sets were made from ivory.
🎂 Recommend a book where you can see teeth on the cover (human or animal) or a book with a mostly white cover.

TBR: Sex, Not Love by Vi Keeland (White Cover)
NEW: Jagged by Vivian Lux (White Cover)

4. Washington has been memorialized on coins, dollar bills, monuments, a state, cities and towns.
Oh, and the seat of a nation. There are 31 states who have a town, city or other municipality using a form of Washington's name and there also 31 states that have at least one monument of Washington.
🎂 Recommend a book that has money or a statue on the cover or takes place in a small town. Or recommend a book written by an author with the first or last name of George or Washington or who is from a place called Washington.

TBR: Getting Dirty (Sapphire Falls, #3) by Erin Nicholas (Small Town)
NEW: Set the Night on Fire (Jupiter Point, #1) by Jennifer Bernard (Small Town)

5. George says he can't tell a lie.
As a young boy, he was accused of chopping down his father's favorite cherry tree. When asked about it he allegedly stated, "I can't tell a lie, Pa." This story was first shared in a biography of Washington after his death. There has been much debate as to whether the story and George's admission is true. No one has been able to prove or disprove it's veracity, however. One should hope the story about being unable to lie isn't a lie!
🎂 Recommend a book with a tree on the cover or where lying is involved.

TBR: The Fifteenth Minute (The Ivy Years, #5) by Sarina Bowen (Lies)
NEW: Rookie Mistake (The Beasts of Baseball #1) by Alice Ward or A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner (Think both contain some sort of lies)

6. Washington was born in 1732 in the colony of Virginia
His family was a moderately prosperous family of the Virginia gentry, of "middling rank" rather than one of the leading planter families. He started his career as a surveyor at the age 17 and did this until his military appointment in 1753. Surveying was his passion, however, and he did this off and on until 1799 and was an active member of the Freemasons until his death.
🎂 Recommend a book that takes place in the US south or where a character works with their hands or works outdoors or there is an outdoor scene on the cover.
TBR: The Long and Winding Road (Bear, Otter, and the Kid, #4) by T.J. Klune
NEW: What You Do to Me (The Haneys #1) by Barbara Longley (Handyman)

7. Washington presided over the 1787 Convention that established the US Constitution.
It was his vision that the country needed a strong federal government as a unifying force to bring the states together. This was not a popular position (and still isn't today) but he prevailed and the Constitution was ratified by all 13 colonies.
🎂 Recommend a book with a politician character or a character who works as a government employee (post office, clerks, courts, any military, police, firefighters, park rangers, etc) or is a very persuasive person.
TBR: Midnight Fever (Men of Midnight, #5) by Lisa Marie Rice
NEW: Flirting with Fire (Hot in Chicago, #1) by Kate Meader or Sudden Death (FBI Trilogy, #1) by Allison Brennan

8. George's birthday is February 22.
At the time of his birth, the British empire was using the Julian calendar which places his birthday as February 11, 1731. But with the adoption of the Gregorian calendar in 1752, his birthday is rightfully noted on my birthday, February 22.
🎂 Recommend a book where someone has a birthday or a celebration takes place, has a publish date in February of any year or on the 22nd of any month.

TBR: You Only Love Twice (Masters and Mercenaries, #8) by Lexi Blake (Published in February)

NEW: Spinning Out (The Blackhawk Boys, #1) by Lexi Ryan or Tortured by Nicole Williams (Published in February)

Hope you find something you enjoy :)

Nicole P | 3200 comments Hi Courtney,

I've started on your picks and will update this post throughout the month as I make my way through them.

US Constitution
🎂 TBR: Archangel's Blade by Nalini Singh (02/02) ★★★ - I'm fully invested the Guild Hunter world and this is the first book about one of the Seven. It fed my curiosity and and answered some of my questions.

Colony of Virginia
🎂 TBR: Miss Mechanic by Emma Hart (10/02) ★★ - not exactly what I anticipated with the characters taking the love/hate thing a little too far.

Wooden Teeth
🎂 TBR: Talking Dirty With the Boss by Jackie Ashenden (18/02) ★★★ - a nice and easy conclusion to this series.

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Danielle Gypsy Soul!

I finished The French Have a Word for It from your list for me. It was a shorter story I had lingering on my tbr. I loved it! Thanks so much for the push to get it off of my tbr. I am recovering from the flu and can't read anything too long right now, so I thought I would try this one. So glad I did!

I'm going to read Five Dares next, one of your new titles for me. It just came in from the library website and I'm excited to start it (it might take me longer to finish right now though :)

Pam | 1048 comments Hi Grace
I just finished Fix You (Second Chances, #1) by Mari Carr . A solid 4 star read for me I was pleasantly surprised at how good this book was. As a cancer survivor myself Mari Carr absolutely nailed all the emotions. Good story, hot sex, great characters. I will definitely be reading more in the series. I'm not sure I ever would have picked this up without your recommendation. Hope to read more but definitely enjoyed the last 2 hours!
