I'm excited about this, I have the book on hold at my library so I will have it for the Buddy Read! I've heard so many good things about this series, I hope it lives up to the hype.

I’m so curious to read the discussion on this one because I was not impressed with this series.

So I started the audiobook. I am not impressed with the narrator. The different Londons have different accents, so instead of doing different British accents (like Welsh, Yorkshire, Cockney, etc), the narrator does different European accents. The one London I'm listening to now, everyone has a German accent. It's really distracting. I'm trying to put myself into a world where they are all Londons, but different, and then there's this random German accent. Ok, sorry, I'll stop ranting now.

I think I listened to that version too! I spent the whole book wondering why they were German...

Just started and wondering the same on the accents.

So glad you mentioned this because I was debating listening to the audiobook, but that would drive me absolutely bonkers, so thank you for the heads up!

I reckon I'll give this a reread when I get round to buying the actual book.

You get used to it, or he lightens up on the harsh German a bit. But it's really weird when you start.

They changed narrators for Books 2 and 3. They got Kramer & Reading to do those...

I just finished and while I really liked all the elements in the book I only ended up liking not loving it. Kell and Lilah were great, world and magic system we’re interesting, story kept me guessing but it just never really grabbed me fully. Still looking forward to the rest of the series.

I'm thinking of joining in on this one, but perhaps a few days late. I've heard mixed reviews of this series, so I'm interested to see if it interests me enough to read the full trilogy.

I've heard that about this series from a few people, I started last night and while I'm not very far in I do think it is interesting. However, it didn't give me that feeling where I needed to stay up all night to finish reading it, so I guess I will see if it hooks me completely or if it just ends up being a pretty good read.

I've been on the last 25% of this book for like 2 days now. I just can't motivate myself to get back into it. Not a good sign. It's a shame cuz it had so much potential when I started it.

I absolutely loved this series, i know it can be a bit slow for some people but trust me it gets better, especially the third book, so please just carry on reading :)

I finished this 2 days ago but didn't have time to post my thoughts (had my brother and his new girlfriend over :p).

late to the party again. as usual nowadays. But starting in a few hours time.

Half way through and I like it. It's a fairly easy read and that stone intrigues me. Will probably finish it by tomorrow.

Totally agree! Loved the entire series, but the first book was the weakest in my opinion, with the third being my absolute favorite!

Wow! So many more of you liked this than I expected.

Finished it and really liked it. Rated it a 4 and will deffinitely go on with the series.

I've just started this tonight, I'm 109 pages in and loving it so far. I can't wait to find out more about the magic system, it seems really cool.

I'm just fitting in a few pages on the commute this morning, I'll most likely finish this this weekend. I like Kell a lot but whenever I read his name I think of Kelsier from Mistborn!

I've been relating his name to Kelsier from Mistborn too...which may not go to well since I love Kelsier and I am not sure how I feel about Kell yet, I'm only about 70 pages in so we will see.

I listened to the audiobook as well, and those weird accents really threw me off. I couldn't help but imagine some SS officers to go with the german accents... Really distracting!

The concept is interesting, the plot was OK, Kell's coat is awesome but I couldn't connect to the characters. At all. They felt... flat and dull to me (Kell in particular). Like we're missing a layer of emotions, motives and internal thoughts, if that makes sense.
Maybe I've been too spoiled by Sanderson and Robin Hobb :p

I loved the other Kell too, he's a legend. I do like this one too although he doesn't seem quite as epic, at least not yet.

I also love his coat! I really like magical objects, often they're like characters themselves.

Laura, I felt like Schwab was beating me over the head with that Lila spoiler. If that doesn’t end up being the case I would be shocked.

So how could Kell not have seen it? That actually bothered me a bit. That's one of the reasons I didn't rate it 5.

I'll take the hat off however if there is another alternative to our theory. That would be good writing.

I'm 270 pages in now, Kell has just (view spoiler)[been kidnapped by the psycho from white London who is pretending to be the Prince. (hide spoiler)] Things are really starting to kick off. I'm not a big fan of Lila. I'm not sure why but I'm just not feeling her.

Lila was too much. Kell as a character was interesting conceptually but quite flat in execution, so he needed a big personality to bounce off of. So at first I was ok with Lila..... then she just turned into a parody of a strong female character. Schwab was soooo heavy handed with her.

This! I'm actually taking it as a fact and not an hypothesis as this point :p

Did anyone else got tired of that "Each London smells different" thing? I like the idea but Schwab repeated so often that Kell smells like flowers and Holland like ash and blood that I felt really sorry for the guy. (view spoiler)[

I like Lila more than Kell. And I think the spoiler point was implied in the book. At least that's what I got out of it.

I just started this last night. Haha, I thought the different smells of each London was a cool idea, but now I'm sort of dreading it being beaten to death.

I had a friend that said Kell and his eye reminds her of any number of anime characters, and now i can un-see it!

Kakashi, Lelouch, Kaneki.... LOL!!!

So I am a little over 100 pages in and I feel like absolutely nothing has happened. The only thing that has been interesting to me so far is when Kell makes it to White London...hopefully it picks up some from here.

Making slow progress with this one. I have to echo Brittany and say that by Chapter 5 still not much has happened. I don't mind slow pacing but I was expecting something snappier.

Yes I thought of both of those things when I read this book.

I've just finished. I liked this one a lot, gave it four stars. I thought the ending was a little rushed and a bit anticlimactic. That being said, I loved the premise and the magic was very cool. I'll likely continue on with the series at some point.
