Beth | 459 comments Here are the Dates so we can see them easily:

Here's how it works:
* You decide which of the four categories (Age, Vocation, Location, Physical Attributes) you want to find a 'date' in.
* Roll a die. Read a book for the number you rolled.

If you can't or don't want to read for that quality, a teammate can volunteer to read it for you. You cannot roll for a new 'date' until your book has been finished. You can read another team member's unwanted 'date' while waiting for your book to be finished.

The team with the most 'dates' read wins.

Books must be 150 pages.
Poetry and graphic novels are not allowed.
Proof of the 'date's' quality must be provided by citing from the text of the book, i.e.; "'Where'd you get the scars?' he asked gently." p. 69 Shakespeare's Landlord

Rolling
roll a die (https://www.random.org/dice/)

Beth | 459 comments Any idea of for a team name?

The Six-Shooters?
Pages for Six (like Table for Six)

OK, I got nothing.

Jessica (bitsy 55) (bitsy55) Hey Beth! Jessica checking in. I like both of those names! I think either one would work. I'm having a hard time coming up with anything :)

Looking forward to meeting everyone and getting started tomorrow!

message 7: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments By the way, you can pick your book now but don't start it until midnight MST.

I picked Location and got a 5 so I need to find a book with someone traveling.

Jessica (bitsy 55) (bitsy55) I chose Location and got and rolled a 3, live in the USA. Should be easy enough. Off to pick.

message 9: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 159 comments Checking in! Will roll in a bit.

Dirty Half-Dozen

But I like The Six-Shooters!

message 10: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 228 comments Morning!
I like Pages for Six but all the suggestions are good :)

message 11: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 228 comments By the way, am I right in thinking we can start reading now? I'm getting confused with the time zones!

message 12: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 228 comments I'm going for vocation and rolled a 2 so character is in the military.

message 13: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 159 comments My first date is Physical Attributes. I rolled a 6. The main character must have brown eyes.

message 14: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Read away!

message 15: by Beth (last edited Jan 24, 2018 12:44PM) (new)

Beth | 459 comments We still need to hear from Kat and Anna. I hope Kat checks in soon since we are hoping she makes the spreadsheet. I will PM them again tonight.

Anna has friended me, so I hope she can find us.

message 16: by Anna (new)

Anna (annasweetrose) | 80 comments You guys finally found you :-)

message 17: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Kat just friended me so I hope she finds us too!

message 18: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 228 comments Do you think a private military will work for a character in the military? That's how the organisation's described in the book I found...

message 19: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 228 comments Never mind, I've found another character in the book who is in a country's army!

message 20: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Anna, are you happy with your roll?

Kat, have you found us yet?

Jessica (bitsy 55) (bitsy55) Hope I did this right!

Date 1
Category-Roll-Task: Location - 3 - Live in the USA

Flowers in the Snow (The Edenville Series, #1) by Danielle Stewart
Book: Flowers in the Snow - Danielle Stewart- Pages: 195 pages - 1/25/2018
Proof: Well, I guess that would be around 1961, right here in Edenville. I was eleven years old..." Chapter 1 page 14.

Jessica (bitsy 55) (bitsy55) Date 2 - Vocation - Roll 3 - Medical Profession

An Irish Country Doctor - Patrick Taylor

message 23: by Anna (new)

Anna (annasweetrose) | 80 comments OK so what do I do?

message 24: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Amanda, Kat still hasn't checked in -- do you want to set up a spreadsheet for us?

message 25: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Anna, in message 4 I put the instructions. Basically you pick a category, roll to see what description you get, and try to read a book matching that description.

If you can't think of anything, call out for help from the group and one of us can try to read that book for you.

message 26: by Beth (last edited Jan 25, 2018 06:29PM) (new)

Beth | 459 comments I think we'd better start labeling COMPLETION POSTS so I don't get them confused with selection posts. Does that make sense?

Jessica, you finished Flowers in the Snow and are starting Irish Country Doctor, right? Or did you finish both?

message 27: by Anna (new)

Anna (annasweetrose) | 80 comments How do I roll?

message 28: by Anna (new)

Anna (annasweetrose) | 80 comments Can’t figure out how to roll or where I’m supposed to go to roll

message 29: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 159 comments Beth, I can start working on a spreadsheet, yes! Might take me a bit, but I should have it by tomorrow.

message 30: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 159 comments Anna, you should be able to roll here: https://www.random.org/dice/
Just change the number of dice to 1.

Or if you have trouble with that one, you might want to try http://www.virtualdiceroll.com/1/en/o...

message 31: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Anna, I put a section on rolling up at the top in message 3 -- either use the web site or you might be able to just yell at your phone. "Hey Siri Roll a dice" works on my iphone.

Yes, it bothers me that "Roll a die" does not work as well.

message 32: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 159 comments Or you could roll a physical die at home if you have problems with any of the online ones!

Jessica (bitsy 55) (bitsy55) Beth wrote: "I think we'd better start labeling COMPLETION POSTS so I don't get them confused with selection posts. Does that make sense?

Jessica, you finished Flowers in the Snow and are starting Irish Countr..."

Yes that is correct!

message 34: by Anna (new)

Anna (annasweetrose) | 80 comments I rolled a 2 , OneLove, Life, and the List

message 35: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments I'm going to pester Kat again in hopes she finds us.

Anna, just making sure -- you can CHOOSE the category (Age, Vocation, Location, Physical Attributes) and then roll for the specific kind of book.

And then if you hate your option you appeal to the team to see if someone will read it for you.

message 36: by Anna (new)

Anna (annasweetrose) | 80 comments Ohhh kkWhat about If I recall A 6

message 37: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 159 comments Team Spreadsheet

Have we decided on a team name?

Anna, which category are you reading your book for?

message 38: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments The options are:

The Six Shooters
Pages for Six
Dirty Half Dozen

I like Pages for Six because it has a vague reference to dating (Tables for Six is a common dating group thing).

I was kind of hoping Kat would show up to vote, but I haven't heard anything other than her accepting my friend request. Tomorrow morning I'll report her absence so we can get a replacement.

message 39: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 159 comments I'm okay with whatever team name we want to go with! I'll go with the majority, because I think they're all good names.

I haven't started a book yet. The book I'm reading now, the character ended up having green eyes. Hoping to find something today that fits! I have a couple other challenge books I need to get to this month, so hopefully one of those has brown eyes.

message 40: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 228 comments I like Pages for six too although they're all good.

I'm halfway through my book, when we've finished one, do we roll again for this week, read another from the same roll or do we not read another unless we're rolling someone else's date?

message 41: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments You roll again each time you finish a book. You can pick a new category to roll in or stay with the same one if you prefer.

message 42: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Amanda, do you want the team to try to read a Brown Eyed MC book for you if we can?

message 43: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Amanda, the spreadsheet is View Only for me -- is that on purpose? I was going to put in the page with proof of traveling from my book so I don't have to find it again later.

Lanelle | 20725 comments Mod
Since Kat hasn't checked in, I get to be part of your team. (I was secretly hoping for the chance to participate. In fact, I picked a category and rolled a couple of days ago because I was curious.)

My vote for the team name goes to Pages For Six.

I chose the location category and rolled a 5.

Selection Post
Mystery Date #: 1
Category: Location
Roll: 5
Requirement: be traveling or visiting somewhere
Book: Under the Legend
Proof: "...flying...three quarters of the way around the world..." p. 2

message 46: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (zmobie) | 159 comments Oh no, Beth. I will change that, just forgot to change the settings. It should be good to edit now!

I have us all in a drop down. Welcome to the team, Lanelle! I'll add your name in the drop down, but should I leave Kat or remove her?

I'm not currently reading anything right now, so I will choose something with a brown eyed character. Just requires a little sleuthing. :)

message 47: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments Welcome Lanelle!

I think we have a consensus for Pages for Six so I will try to change the Discussion name.

message 48: by Beth (new)

Beth | 459 comments And I put a link to the spreadsheet in the first message.
