Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments I'd love to because this has been on my radar for a long time but I don't think starting a 6th new series this month is sensible.

Same. I really want to read this and have wanted to for a while, but the timing isn't good for me. Maybe we can relist for those who can't join now it in a few months?

message 11: by Beste (last edited Jan 28, 2018 11:10PM) (new)

Beste | 1163 comments I finished it yesterday. Thinking of why I loved this when I first read it. It doesn't seem that special to me now.

(view spoiler)

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Oh man! I didn't even know you had started to read it Beste. :(
I'll start it today also.

It was an easy read after I finished the The Shadow Rising. Here to discuss though.

The biggest question after I finished the book:
(view spoiler) I mean my mind wouldn't rest holding that person thinking (view spoiler)
Reading what I write made me feel the cruelty in my ideas but (view spoiler)?

message 14: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments now I'm curious. I'll open your spoiler when I'm done with it. :)

Thank you for sticking around with me.

message 15: by Beste (new)

Beste | 1163 comments I want to know your thoughts too! Pls finish fast :)

message 16: by Charlie (last edited Jan 29, 2018 04:13AM) (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments Hey guys, I didn't get any reading done at the weekend as I ended up moving furniture around and doing DIY (which didn't go too terribly!). I only started this last night before bed, im 65 pages in and loving it so far!!

Potentially problematically, I really like both main characters, so I'm rooting for them both, not sure how that's going to work!

I also think the world sound super cool. It's very vivid in my mind, I think Marie Lu definitely writes in a way that's really easy to absorb.

I'm definitely reading more of this tonight so I'll check back in later :).

message 17: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments Up to page 116, still super intrigued. The two characters have (view spoiler)

message 18: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments I finished it. It was a pretty fast and easy read comparing with all my other reads this month.

I'm giving it a 3.5 to 4 stars. To me it had a bit of the Hunger Games vibe but a little less believable. I liked both June and Day but found the whole story perhaps a little bit shallow. (view spoiler)

I would say this book is very good for young people. Once you reach my age however, you tend to be a little more critical towards both storyline and little details. It was a good and entertaining read but I'm not left with an unresisting desire to see what happens next as is the case with Blood Song for instance.

A fast, easy read is definitely what I needed in between the heavier stuff. Sometimes I really enjoy something a bit fluffier that doesn't make me think.

I've actually still got a few pages of Blood Song left, I'm savouring them :D

I feel you.
After Shadow Rising I needed a book like this. And don't leave Blood Song for too late, 2nd book is coming soon

message 21: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments that's true Charlie. I needed that kind of a read also.

And we need the points for Blood Song also. :D Our team is falling behind again I think.

And how about you Beste? How did you rate this one? I think we both have similar thoughts on it.

Yes we do!
I had 5stars for it but downrated to 4 after this reread because 3 would be cruel to the vividness of the world Marie Lu provided.

As you said this book is very good for young ppl. I read this book couple of yrs ago and I guess I changed since then.
I guess its about seeing the depth of events, you get it in years. (view spoiler)

message 23: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments I completely agree Beste. Besides, the world is very real and it's very engaging and pleasant to read. That's why I also left it at 4.

message 24: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments I'm loving the world, it's so clear and vivid. I'm at page 273 now so nearly finished, it's been a super fun read so far.

message 25: by Em Lost In Books (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) | 2388 comments when are you people starting 2nd book?

message 26: by Beste (new)

Beste | 1163 comments @Laura can you set it to 26th again?

message 27: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments I'm honestly not sure I want to continue with this for now. Would have to borrow the books from the library if I do and I promised myself to finish as many as I can from those that I own.

Can we wait for Charlie to finish also and then decide? If we do continue I'd like to move the date forward a bit. Say around the 23rd if that's ok with you. I have Goodkind starting on the 26th and don't want to be late for that again. :)

Okies. This will be an easy read again so we can just squeeze it whenever you are free. (I only have 6 books scheduled to Feb:) )

message 29: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments thanks Beste! :) I have 12 planned BRs for Feb plus 5 books set as to-be-read-in-Feb. (talk about overbooking! *sigh* I have to stay away from that BR invite thread for some time.)

message 31: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments I definitely want to read book 2!

message 32: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments @Manju and Charlie - as both of you are here I'll do this too. Go team House of Chains!! :D

I'll probably scrap one of the other books for this but it's a fairly easy read so totally worth it. 😊

Are you also ok with 23rd as start day Beste? If everyone's fine with it I'll ask for threads for the remaining books for 23rd Feb and March.

message 33: by Em Lost In Books (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) | 2388 comments yeah! go house of chains! ;)

It's really a great read. It's quite fluffy, nothing you need to think too hard about :)

message 40: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments I've just finished the last few pages of this, I was saving them. Throughly enjoyable, I gave it 4 stars. Looking forward to the others :)
