DJay (djdjay) | 13 comments I don't write, but I'm saying good luck! I was actually trying to build a game like this for a while with the unreal engine. Like those old CYA type books, or the Tale Tale games.....once again...good luck!

DJay (djdjay) | 13 comments I was originally trying to go with a different approach. Trying to pull off more of a RPG meets CYA type approach to make each time you play different.

DJay (djdjay) | 13 comments No I haven't. I guess I'll queue those up to read next.

I write books set inside video games, so that's a pretty good start I think.
:)
I also like to write and design ideas for pen and paper rpgs, and board games. Nothing of that side is published, but I'm trying to change that.

A.C. | 1 comments I did have a stint writing for two games, tabletops for an indie company, one was near-future-sci-fi (basically, proto-"The Expanse"), one was more traditional fantasy, dnd-styled setting.

The fantasy one in particular was a nice run as they had sort of come up with their universe and play gimmick at the same time; each playable race was constructed by a different deity, which meant whoever was "winning" on land was winning in heaven, in this chess-like cosmic game for control of the planet. So really all I had to do was design the gods, design the extra races, design the nations, all the fun bits xD It gave them the excuse to wax and wane player powers over the course of a campaign, though as I recall the project ran into some copyright hell and I can't even remember what happened after I exited.

Patrick Brennan | 1 comments My dream is to have one of my stories adapted as a game, in any form.

I sometimes consider writing IF myself, but it's so daunting. Writing a single good story is hard enough. Writing three or four variations on the story, all equally good, seems impossible. Plus there's the difference in formats. If I spent months writing something in, say, ChoiceScript, but then Choice of Games didn't want to publish it, you're left with a useless story you'd have to greatly reformat to work. (I could be wrong on that)

I had to look up what that was, but yes, yes I do write that! Thanks for the definition! :D

@Edwin - you mind sharing which one you read? I only heard about the genre a few months ago, but I'm very interested in the idea. The person who introduced the word LitRPG was complaining that a lot of the books that kicked off the genre are bad translations, full of stereotypes and sexism. They said they loved the idea, but hated the execution in a lot of the books they'd read. I've been trying to get a feel for what's out there, both good and bad.

I've done some game writing in the past, by creating a text-heavy web-based role-playing game. It was a nice project, balancing writing, programming, and artwork, but that's not for everyone. I couldn't keep up with the game and handed it off years ago, though since learning of LitRPG, my current work in progress is attempting a novelization of the old game.

Arbie Krae (arbiekrae) Hi!

Game writing is something I am interested in, mostly interactive fiction. I'm not sure if you know of them, but the Telltale games are brilliant and I would love to write something in that vein - or Life is Strange. Consequence games are possibly my favourite at the moment.

My own experience has been with visual novels. Unfortunately, although two paths were completed, we weren't able to finish and release it as without the guy doing the coding. Instead we're now reworking it as a light novel.

I would like to have another go at writing a visual novel. Although I found it to be quite overwhelming at times when it came to what choice led to which path!

I haven't heard of Ink Script but it sure looks like something I'd like to look into!
