Eric Mesa (djotaku) | 672 comments Synopsis: Frankenstein finally meets the monster who demands his creator take responsibility for creating him. Finally, Frankenstein wants to kill him now that he doesn't have to look for the monster. Also this is foolish for he created a large and strong monster.

Commentary: I almost completely fell out of my suspension of disbelief when the monster shows up and can not only speak, but speaks quite eloquently. Not only is this not present in any of the pop culture - usually at most he speaks like a caveman - but he has had not tutor since Frankenstein abandoned him. I had to remind myself it'd been 2 years and that people spoke more eloquently back then so he just learned somewhere and was speaking normally.

"The sight of the awful and majestic in nature had indeed always the effect of solemnizing my mind, and causing me to forget the passing cares of life" - meanings of words drift. Clearly awful doesn't mean what it does to us. It means full of awe.

Gisela | 4 comments While I've read Frankenstein before, this time around it really struck me for the first time that the monster is going around referencing Milton. He sounds like he could have been educated at Oxford.
