Tim Franklin | 10953 comments Johnny Tillotson, aged 86. Had his biggest hit in 1961 with 'Poetry In Motion'. He was one of that generation of American singers who came up after Elvis, whose pop careers were effectively terminated by the rise of the Beatles in 1964.

Sad news. I was thinking yesterday as we watched the Easter Address and Blessing on TV that he was actually looking and sounding remarkably well considering how seriously ill and so close to death he had been over recent weeks.

It seems now that he was having one last rally in health which enabled him to have one more Easter Service.

I hope the next Pope will be someone less controversial and much more modern and forward thinking. The whole wide world is in such desperate need of great wisdom and a genuine commitment to care and compassion from all those who seek to lead and guide us in matters of religion and politics.

Hi Suzy, slightly puzzled by your last paragraph. I thought the Pope had a liberal view on LBQT rights and brought attention to climate change in a positive way.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments TheFoe wrote: "Hi Suzy, slightly puzzled by your last paragraph. I thought the Pope had a liberal view on LBQT rights and brought attention to climate change in a positive way."

In many ways, yes, Pope Francis was someone who was certainly far more committed to bringing the Church closer to the realities of modern life and he was a far more inclusive and transformative figurehead in the Catholic Church.

However if you do a Google search of ... Pope Francis controversy ... then you will also be able to see many articles which will explain much more fully and clearly than I can as to why many people still found Pope Francis to also be a contradictory and controversial figure in a lot of negative ways as well as positive ways.

Fair play, didn't know that much about him as I don't follow any religion. Had a quick Google search and see where you're coming from.

message 1583: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I believe that, fundamentally, he was a genuine and a good man. The reality is that the position of the Pope is something that is always going to be an utter nightmare of an impossible challenge and commitment for anyone now living in this modern day and age.

Tim Franklin | 10953 comments John Gladwin, founder member of "medieval folk rock" band Amazing Blondel. His career began in the sixties with a band called The Dimples. When that ended, John and bandmate Terry Wincott formed a 'loud electric' band called Methuselah (who released one album, 'Matthew, Mark, Luke & John' in 1969). During the band's shows they would play a couple of acoustic numbers and after realising that they seemed to go down better than the Cream-style workouts, both left to pursue the acoustic route. Gladwin left Amazing Blondel in 1973 after the band had released four albums. They eventually broke up around 1976.
