Sad to hear. The band had only released their first album in twenty years just over a month ago, I think.

Val H. | 22152 comments One of the best gigs I ever went to, Brian Wilson and The Wondermints in Melbourne 2004. It was a warm December Friday night and a crowd in a great mood (after work drinks). It was only 18 months after his appearance at the Queen’s Jubilee and he was still very fragile but the crowd showered him with love. I’ve seen him with the Beach Boys but give me that show with The Wondermints any time. A musical giant sadly no more.

Tim Franklin | 10953 comments Lalo Schifrin, Argentine born film composer, aged 93. His credits include the theme for Mission: Impossible (in the original and far superior TV version), Cool Hand Luke, Bullitt, Dirty Harry, Enter The Dragon, The Eagle Has Landed and The Amityville Horror

message 1612: by Tim (new)

Tim Franklin | 10953 comments Gerald Harper, actor and radio presenter amongst other things, aged 96. Probably his best remembered role would be the title character in the BBC series 'Adam Adamant Lives!' (1966-67). Starting in the early 70s for about a decade Harper presented his 'Sunday Affair' show on Capital Radio, during which he would send champagne and chocolates to especially deserving listeners. He would later return to the theatre to act and direct.

Sera69 | 1924 comments Dave Cousins, of the Strawbs has died aged 85.

Will probably always be remembered for Part of the Union, but they had some pretty fine albums in their catalogue all the way into the 2010's

Part of Union was really Hudson-Ford piece but Cousins was a brilliant guitarist, singer and songwriter. really, he was the Strawbs. Their album Grave New World is a MASTERPIECE, Bursting at the Seams another excellent album. Sort of Rock-Folk-Prog. One of Rick Wakeman's first bands ! RIP

Val H. | 22152 comments I know 87 is a good innings but I'm still sad. She was very good in her field but never seemed to find real happiness. I love her album "Who's Happy Now".

Tim Franklin | 10953 comments David Kaff, 79, formerly of progressive band Rare Bird (as David Kaffinetti). Despite his genuine musical pedigree, Kaff will probably be best remembered for playing Viv Savage, keyboard player with Spinal Tap in the legendary movie.

Tim Franklin | 10953 comments The end of an era. It's almost as if Ozzy was holding on to do that farewell show before letting go, similar to how David Bowie did until the day after Black Star was released in 2016. RIP and thank you.

Sera69 | 1924 comments George Kooymans, guitarist with Golden Earring, passed at 77 after years suffering with the neuro-muscular disease ALS. Radar Love is usually on those Rock compilations somewhere close to Paranoid, but 25 studio albums means there is a lot more to them than one hit wonder, and George could play! Unfortunately, he didn't get to make it, a la Ozzy, to the final night: "Golden Earring: One Last Night", that was scheduled for 30th January, 2026.

Post Soviet (postsoviet) | 551 comments RIP Ozzy, true legend, second from the three indestructibles in my book gone (first was Lemmy, Keef left).

Yesterday evening were watching his last performance I downloaded just couple weeks ago, great timing! Good crowd, unlike ones from eurovison or fookin glastonburry.
oh well...

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Dame Cleo Laine (Clementina Campbell) died on July 24th in Wavendon, Buckinghamshire, at the age of 97 ... RIP ... x

I don't dislike all that much in music although I have never been fond of Jazz. However, Cleo Laine's Jazz records were a huge favourite of my parents when I was a child and so I grew up listening to her ... admiring her remarkable personality, great beauty, and incredible vocal gift.

Val H. | 22152 comments I knew I shouldn't have looked him up on Wiki recently! Now I feel responsible for his death along with Neil Simon and Michel Legrand. "An Evening With Tom Lehrer" was a big part of my childhood. Such fun and intelligence and kindness.

Val H. | 22152 comments And it's farewell to Flaco Jiménez, the very epitome of Tex-Mex music, aged 86. He played with everyone - the Stones, Stephen Stills, Doug Sahm, Emmylou Harris, Ry Cooder, Bob Dylan and many more. Sadly missed.

Tim Franklin | 10953 comments Ronnie Rondell, Jr. aged 88

You might not know his name, but his best known work is in millions of people's homes. Ronnie was the stuntman who was set on fire for Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' album sleeve.

Sera69 | 1924 comments Brent Hinds, lead guitarist for Mastodon, died at 51 in a motorcycle accident. Mastodon were pretty much a revelation in their formative years combining heavy and progressive elements and releasing, arguably, some of the greatest albums of the C21st.
