Antonella When I am given an opportunity to ask question to one of fav authors I kind of go crazy. Because I have so many. Like I wish we could have coffee a talk music, and ink, dogs and this crazy names you name your awesome characters.

Here are some Q*!??!?
-Which book was the most inspired by true events that happened in your life ?
-what is most surprising fact you learned writing one or some of your books?

Btw. I love Bax and I love Rule... but I am so grateful that you wrote Salvaged that is healing and hope all wrapped up in so much kindness..
All the best..

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Christa wrote: "Who is your favorite female character and male character from the Marked Men series and why?"

My favourite character is actually Bax from the Point series. If I have to pick from the MM it's Asa. I like the boys that are trouble and have a lot of work to do to be worthy of their ladies. My favorite girl is Salem. Her style and her self-confidence really appeal to me.

The book Recovered which is coming at the end of March is actually loosely based on my first boyfriend I had when I was a teenager. So Cable, the hero, comes directly from my real life.
In all honesty, the fact I could write a book at was one of the biggest surprises of writing my books...lol... and I'm always surprised when the characters deviate from where I intended them to go, or when they fall for someone I never thought they would. For instance, Ayden was originally supposed to end up with Nash..but nope. And Asa was originally supposed to end up with Avett...again...not so much.
And YES, Salvaged was the best way to bring everything and all of those characters around full circle :)

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Jessie wrote: "Who was your favorite character to write and why?"

Bax is my favorite. I liked that he didn't ever change who is and that he makes no apologies for being not a great person. Plus his book really pushed me and showed me I could write more than one thing or in one genre

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments S.Shade wrote: "What inspires you to write your characters, are they based off of real people?"

I think all authors still habits and traits they are familiar with and sneak them into their characters. It's hard not to. But in general, mine are not based on anyone real. I have a few who I took their physical appearance from folks I know, usually the girls...lol If you read my books the acknowledgements in the back always points out when I used a real person to shape a character in someway

I read a lot so I have a lot of favorties! I love Kristen Ashley. I adore Pen Douglas. I like LJ Shen's books a lot and Karina Halle. Aly Martinez is great and obviously, I read all Cora Carmack's books. Her YA was amazing.

Let's see... I'm waiting for Kill Switch by Pen, and I want to read the final How to Date a Douche Bag by Sarah Ney. I'm sure there are 1000 others but I can't think of them off the top of my head

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Brittany wrote: "Hi Jay! What is your favorite book and who is your favorite author?"

My favorite book ever is the Cather in the Rye.
My favorite author is a romance author named Anne Stuart, but I really love Kristen Ashley as well

Naw.. not really. Mostly because I don't really read outside of contemporary/romantic suspense. I think if you want to be successful in a genre you need to enjoy reading in it as well. Tho I did promise Cora I'd try and write a paranormal one day... and I really enjoy reading m/m romance so maybe one day I'd dive back into that

CerysAnne Each of your series’ are very different in their own way; you’ve written books about tatted up bad boys, books about boys who’re bad, and books about cowboys... Will we be getting another series’ by you that’s totally different to your previous series? And would you one day ever do a huge crossover where we see these series’ and characters colliding together and meeting? Absolutely love your books - so excited for Escape, Recovered, and Respect to come!!

Maybe! I don't know how near in the future that may be, but yes, getting back to London is on my to-do list. I'm just trying to cut back on being gone so much. It's exhausting and totally messes with my deadlines :) I've learned I can't write when I'm traveling

message 22: by Jay (new)

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Steffi wrote: "What do you do when you come across a writers block? Thank you!"

I usually read a book completely opposite of whatever it is I'm writing. Or I write something that doesn't require dialogue, like a sex scene or a transitional scene. I used to try and force myself to write through it, but got tired of having to erase all those words because they were awful. Honestly you just have to wait it out.

You know, I never really have a plan about WHAT kind of boys I'm going to base a series or release around. I usually just have a general idea and as I start writing the first book the world sort of explodes around the storyline.
As for a huge crossover, that's so many characters and having a reason for them all to be in the same place at the same time would be a stretch. I do like to revisit favorites, and if the opportunity every pops up to drop a familiar face in a new book in a creative way I jump all over. I do like to weave threads of all the worlds together in some way, but you have to be really familiar with all my books to pick them out :)

message 29: by Jay (new)

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Debra wrote: "Hi Jay! My question is who or what inspired you to become a writer?"

My mom. She was always very supportive of me. She had a book in my hand when I was a baby. She's the one that taught me to love reading. and she's been my biggest cheerleader since I published Rule. She's not a huge romance reader but she's read all my books

I would suggest J. Daniels Alabama Boys series then. Also the mountain man series by Kristen Ashely. Devney Perry's BitterRoot series also has that feel

Work! I'm usually pretty busy in the summertime with events and releases. I'm sure I'll work some fun in there somewhere, not sure what it will be tho

message 32: by Jay (new)

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Morgan wrote: "Hey Jay! ❤️❤️ your books! My question is, what is your writing process like? Do you lock yourself in a room for hours without distractions?"

Nope. I write in front of the TV. I either sit at my desk and hammer out words or use my laptop on the couch. I watch a lot of Investigation Discovery and Food Network when I write. I also have three dogs, one of which is a 3 month old lab puppy, so there is nothing but distractions during my work day. I usually work from noon to 6ish, or I work 6pm to around midnight. Just depends on the day. I do try and write a little bit every day tho. It's hard for me if I have days in between, I loose my flow

Sometimes I do. I usually watch TV when I write.
All the books with playlists are loaded onto Spotify for readers to follow.
I've always been big into indie music and the entire music scene. I grew up big into punk rock and rockabilly, so I still have a big passion for those lesser knowns bands

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Trudy wrote: "Have you ever thought about a series based on females as the main/heroine characters?"

Oh, I think the girls in all my books are just as important as the boys. The boys just sell better on the cover.
Retreat is actually told in single point of view, all from the heroine's eyes.

message 39: by Jay (new)

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Stephanie wrote: "What is the strangest thing you have ever Googled for a book?"

I spend a lot of time Googling crime and prison sentence lengths for the Point series. Lately I've been Googling a lot of stuff about Wyoming for the Getaway series as well, lots of horse stuff...lol
It's pretty crazy to hop from one to another

Jay Crownover (crownover) | 79 comments Sunnie wrote: "what's the weirdest place or situation that a book idea came up to you out of nowhere?"

As bad as it sounds, I space out when driving a lot and that's usually when an idea will come to me. I think it's because of the radio. I've had more than one idea hit when a part of a song really sticks with me.

I like all my books for different reasons but Better When he's Bad has a special place in my heart. I just love Bax to bits.

Maybe something crazy like Jumanji or the Wizard of OZ...doesn't make any sense to have like a contemporary book come to life since they should be real and relatable anyways

I would wish that my dogs would live long and healthy, happy lives, like much longer than a dog typically lives for

I would wish for the ability to teleport places so I don't have to fly and deal with travel nightmares and airports

I would wish that I could afford any house I wanted to buy at any location on the planet.

I can't function without Pepsi. Like at all. So there is usually one or two on my desk after a workday. I also need a really comfortable place to sit. I can't really write on an airplane or at like Starbucks. That doesn't work for me. I need a comfy chair and a place to put my feet up
