Welcome everyone to our February Book Club A History of Canada in Ten Maps by Adam Shoalts. My name is Anne and I will be leading our discussion this month! We have multiple copies available in a variety of formats at the library which you can reserve here:

I hope that you enjoy reading the book this month and I am looking forward to discussing it with you. Please feel free to share your thoughts and respond to any question that is posted!

As a question to start off the month, do you have a favourite memory involving maps?

Heidi Madden | 118 comments Hi Anne :) I don’t think I have a particular memory that involves maps but I will say that I love them. I love look at them and tracing different paths. I think in another life, one where I was better at math, I would have liked to be a cartographer. I am loving the approach that Adam takes with this book. Maps as a way to understand history. I find his writing style very easy to read and while I am only a few chapters in I am really enjoying this book.

Hi Heidi,

I absolutely agree with you, maps are such an interesting way to learn about history. I found the book very readable and it is so interesting to flip and look at the various maps. It really allows the reader to see how the visual perception of Canada has changed, from a small area that might reach China to a very large landmass.
