Casceil | 2728 comments So, I guess we should check in and start thinking about books. We have to finish Card 1 before we can do Card 2, so we should start our planning accordingly.

message 3: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments We will also need a clever team name. Any suggestions?

message 4: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Hi Team B! We have a great team here! 🙂

I'm just off to bed, so I will start my gophering tomorrow. I will probably only be able to read a maximum of 3 books during the week.

message 5: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Great, Lisa. At some point we may need to figure out who is likely to be on line when. I know Rusalka's schedule (Australia) is very different than mine (Phoenix), and I won't be going to bed for about six hours.

message 6: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Hey guys. Not sure how much I'll be around this weekend but I'll try to look in on some books to see what I've got. Maybe I'll have plenty of time this weekend I really just don't know

message 7: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Good to hear from you, Travis.

message 8: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Hello teamies!!

Yeah, I'm the difficult one. I do have one of my computer clocks at home set to Toppler time and it informs me it is 10.25pm EST at the moment. It's 2.26pm AEDT at the moment. I will check in more at Toppler time (naughtily at work) probably around 10am my time and about this time in the afternoon. Then I am pretty much online from 6pm-12am my time during the week - so say 2am-8am toppler time. We are at the bad cross over time at the moment, in your summer and my winter we are 2 hours closer together. But we will make it work!!

I just came home from the bookshop (Lexx's suggestion, not mine as we were looking at fireplaces over the road) but will start gophering. I'll probably get 3-4 reads done over the week.

I'll try and think of some B names too. Wooo!

message 9: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Hi, Rusalka. Thanks for explaining the time difference. I had wondered.

message 10: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Multiple clocks on my desktop help immensely for me. I have a local one, a London one, and Toppler time one (and I work out other zones from that).

If you want to set up one for the Toppler so you know when I will appear, set it to Canberra/Sydney/Melbourne time or Australian Eastern Daylight Time :D Then you can spy on my movements and tell me when I get to work late lol

message 11: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I think I can read something for every task on card one, except beach umbrella.
Same for card two, except title starting with Z, and animal perspective.

message 12: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments And all I can think for a name is Bingo Beatin' Bitches. Maybe more appropriately Bingo Beatin' Badarses/Badasses to cater for our gender diverse team.

Now I have written that down, maybe I can finally think of something else.

message 13: by Lisa (last edited Feb 03, 2018 05:09AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Here are some books that I could possibly read. They are all for Card 1:

Vampires, werewolves or ghosts - The Coffin Path

Female author - Caraval OR The Couple Next Door

Male author - Call Me by Your Name

Set during a war - A Long Long Way

Animal on the cover - English Animals

Epistolary style book - Letters from Skye

Hehe, I like Bingo Beatin' Badasses.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Looking at our team list again, we are actually going to be pretty nicely spread across the world. Which may be slightly annoying, but may work to our advantage too.

Me here >> Pragya in India >> European contingent >> US/Canada/Latin American contingent

message 16: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Hi everyone. Checking in and I have a small question.
Should I look for books in Card 1 other than those the other team members have already chosen or should I try to choose books from 1 full line? I'm willing to give a try to both so we can get more points.

message 17: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I'd start by looking for all books you have on card one. We will want to complete the whole card as our starting point. Once we do that, we will want to do as much of card two, prioritising rows and columns (as a whole, not individuals) to maximise points.

So I would start digging and let us know what squares you can do on card one and two! Glad to have you with us

message 18: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Thank you Rusalka. I'll start gophering and let you know the titles by tomorrow.

message 19: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments Hi Team!!
I'll report my ghopering's results this weekend!

message 20: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Ok I have a book to fit
Set during a war.authors name starts with "f"

I'm sure I have more but that's all I have time for now :)

message 21: by Pragya (last edited Feb 03, 2018 10:59AM) (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Hey you'all.

Love our team! I recognize everyone. Haha. :D
So I am traveling to Bangladesh for a conference next week (which is a mere half hour ahead of India but I need to remember that bit) but I aim to complete atleast 2 books if not more. Off to gopher.

message 22: by Pragya (last edited Feb 03, 2018 11:00AM) (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Who is doing the spreadsheet this time around?
*Hint* Not me :p

message 23: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments I can read -

Gifts which fits the following
First book in a series
Young Adult
Female Author
One word title

Genuine Fraud which fits
Young Adult
Female author

message 24: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I sure hope someone on this team knows how to do a spreadsheet. I don't. Any volunteers?

I pre-ordered a book that will arrive before the toppler, Survive the Night. It would fit any of several squares: animal on the cover, romance, or book by female author.

I don't have much on hand that would fit, but with my Kindle Unlimited subscription I can find something.

I am willing to read The Girls of August for beach umbrella, unless someone else has a beach umbrella book they want to read.

message 25: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm not at all good with spreadsheets, so I won't be able to do one for us. Sorry folks!

Hopefully there is someone on this team who is a spreadsheet whizz 🙂

message 26: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments My job is all about excel, but as discussed above, it's not a good plan for me to do it unfortunately. You'll all report in, and want new reads, but won't be able to see where we are at for another 8 hours or so :(

I can if no one else can, but I think that's a disadvantage. Or can set it up and pass it over to someone else to edit.

message 28: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) I am not good with Excel but I'm at home today and can keep a list of who can read what and pass it over to someone else to edit. That way we can see what categories we still need to fill.

message 29: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) I will read:
A Darker Shade of Magic - goes for first in a series
Dragons of Spring Dawning - goes for female author
Tower Lord - goes for 2nd in a series and male author

and an extra of 2 or 3 books for other categories. Those I'll chose from what we're missing.

message 30: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I finished my book, and want to purge my brain before starting the next.

So I am making a spreadsheet. I'm putting in drop boxes and the like, and formulas so that it will auto calc our scores for us and show clearly our read vs unread tasks.

If someone would like to volunteer on the other side of the world to help update it, it should be pretty easy. I'll link when it's done.

message 31: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) I can update if you want. As long as I just have to add in names or titles it's ok with me.

message 32: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) According to what I saw this is what we have till now:

Animal on Cover - Lisa - English Animals
First book in a series - Laura - A Darker Shade of Magic
Epistolary style book - Lisa - Letters from Skye
Set during a war - Lisa - A Long Long Way
Young adult - Pragya - Genuine Fraud
Vampires, werewolves, or ghosts - Lisa - The Coffin Path
One word title - Pragya - Gifts
Romance - Casceil - Survive the night
Beach umbrella on cover - Casceil - The Girls of August
2nd book in a series - Laura - Tower Lord
Female author - Laura - Dragons of Spring Dawning
Lisa - Caraval/The Couple Next Door
Pragya - Genuine Fraud
Male author - Lisa - Call me by Your Name

Plus Mariab willing to read 2 books in different categories.

Hope it helps. :)

message 33: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Feb 03, 2018 08:53PM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Right, here we go:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

I've locked it so the only things that can be changed are:
Person
Title
Unread/Read - which is a locked drop down menu.

Once Unread is changed to Read, it will change to green. It will also update the scoring chart for number of books read, and will update the column and row count.

Once the count of the row or column hits 5, it will autoupdate the score chart with bonus points.

Once all 25 books hit read, it will update the score chart too for more bonus points.

Call Me by Your Name can also be read for "Coming of Age"

message 35: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Good work, Rusalka! Thanks.

message 36: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I've also added in a spreadsheet for planning. I've added in the books Laura collated above, some other comments, and then how many books each of us mentioned we could read either in here, or on the sign up thread.

This is not committing you to the tasks, this is so we can see who can read each task and strategise.

At this point in time, we look like we may not finish the first card, which is completely fine.
But if so, we should focus on rows and columns to maximise bonus points.

message 37: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) I'm taking out Dragons of Spring Dawning as we have other booms for that category and am looking right now for smaller books to fill in the missing categories.

message 38: by Poongothai (new)

Poongothai (poongsa) | 483 comments Hi Team

message 39: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) here is my revised list:
1. A Darker Shade of Magic - 1st in series
2. Tower Lord - 2nd in series
3. The Greatcoat - horror
4. The Demon's Librarian - MC has a job you'd like (I'd love to be doing that a professional careers go)
5. Snowbrother by S.M. Stirling or The Winter Ghosts by Kate Mosse - for snow on cover

Count on me for 1 or 2 more books extra but I'd like to choose those later, when we see what else we're missing.

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Woohoo, Rusalka. You're the best!

message 44: by Beth (last edited Feb 04, 2018 02:40PM) (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Without crazy searching, I could definitely do:
Emma which will work for set in 1800s or book made into movie or one word title or Proper name in title or female author
And/or Winter which works for one word title, 2nd in a series, title starts with a w, or female author
And/or several for male author

I will hunt for others

message 45: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Emma is great book but it's long. I bet you could read two shorter books in the same amount of time. But Winter looks good. I have not read that one

message 46: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments I also have a police procedural I could tee up...

Mariab | 3059 comments Beth wrote: "And/or Winter which works for one word title, 2nd in a series, title starts with a w, or female author..."

I think Winter will work for "One Word Title", but not for "Title starts with", because it should start with "V" and not with "W": "Row 4: Title starts with "V".

message 48: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Actually, nix Emma. I forgot I had already read it. I will find something else.

message 49: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Lol, my printer printed with a shadow so it looked like a w! I will check for V books then!
