jaxnsmom | 8341 comments The problem with a toppler: reading a book that's part of a series and you want to read the next book now, but have to wait a week unless you can find a way to fit that next book into a bingo square :) I think I'll be able to do it, I'll have to see if the squares are available.

Oh that's a shame, Mariab. Hope your next read is better, and yay for getting two in!

But thank you and Pragya for telling me I never need to read that book lol

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I put this in the reporting thread, but want to post here too so we all see.

I've put Jmom's read for card two into the spreadsheet, but remember we can't count any points for card two UNTIL we finish card one. So they don't go towards our total as yet. But once we finish card one, we already are on the board.

But if people are looking at card two reads, we should prioritise the row/column that Jmom has started. So:
Trees on cover, Standalone, Family drama, MC is a police officer or in military service, Told in animal's perspective
OR
Trees on cover, Set in 1900s, Set in the United States, Title starts with “Z”, Family relationship in title

But we need to kick card one first.

message 157: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I have finished both of the Card 1 books assigned to me. I started a Card 2 book for Food on the cover, because I thought we were starting with the row with person with a hat on the cover. I finished my first two books much faster than I expected. If anyone else has a card one book they want me to take over, let me know.

message 158: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'll be reading my hat on the cover book after I finish my current book. Should have both done by Monday evening EST. I got impatient to read my card 2 book so I jumped ahead. Now I'm reading my last card 1 obligation. I got a lot more reading done over the weekend than I thought I would.

That's okay, finish reading it and we can see if we can move things around. It's why I wanted the emergency backup tasks listed too, so we could maneuver if we needed.

Completely understand :) Just wanted to state it loud so we all knew we had to finish card 1 however.

Would your hat on the cover book work for one of the other tasks in the row or column you have already started on card 2? We want to maximise those points.

message 161: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) I'm almost done with book 2 and will start on the 3rd one tonight (MC has a job you'd like).
From card 2 I could take Told from an animal perspective after I finish those I chose for Card 1.
Just let me know if I should.

message 162: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Thanks Laura. As you have a couple more reads, let see if Casceil and Jmom check in with any answers over night.

At my aunt's funeral on Friday, I found out one of my cousins just moved to Sydney last week. I told them to come visit as we are only 3 hours away. Just got a message saying they rearranged things and will come down and stay on Saturday. Bah. I mean it will be lovely to actually hang out with her, but didn't she get the memo about Toppler time?!?

Tender with a Twist could also work for Set in US, Free Space, and Published 2017/18.

message 164: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Are we only doing rows and columns? Not the diagonal?

message 165: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments No diagonals this bingo toppler. No points for them.

message 166: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments What about your Tiger Tale book, Jmom? Can we move that to another square?

message 167: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Has anyone else claimed any squares on card two other than myself, Casceil (food on cover), and Laura (animal perspective)? Other than Rusalka claiming all of them :)

A Tiger's Tale would fit pub 2017/18 or free read. I'll check but I think it's set in US which could be helpful.

I'm trying to decide what to read next and my only problem is that I'm still reading all m/m romances which is limiting me.

message 168: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I haven't claimed them, I have options. We were letting the team know what options we had and then making decisions.

I'm not sure Laura is locked in yet, until we could see if we could get all the card 2 reads in a line.

But I need to go to bed as it's 12.30am, and I haven't managed to read much at all tonight.

See you all in the morning.

message 169: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Get a good night's sleep! No dreaming of dancing bingo squares.

message 170: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Rusalka is right. I'm not locked in for Card 2. I'll wait for the ok from the team before I start with the next book. Will take from the categories needed at that time. I just found that particular book on my bookshelf and thought it is both nice to read and would fit. :)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished my first book, The Coffin Path The Coffin Path by Katherine Clements . It was one of my most anticipated books of the year but sadly I was left quite disappointed. It took ages to go anywhere and I didn't connect with any of the characters. We also got lots of repeated information and scenes. I gave it 3 stars but only because the last 50 or so pages saved it. I would have rated it 2 stars if it wasn't for them.

I have to go to an appointment now so I will start my next book when I get back.

message 172: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Jmom, if one of your books would fit "romance" for Card 1, we could swap that out with mine (Survive the Night), and use Survive the Night for "MC is a police officer" on Card 2.

message 173: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I can easily switch one of my books to romance.

Well, if we do that, we should move Jmom's hat book. And then focus on the top row of Card 2. Which we know Laura has an animal perspective book for.

Which means if anyone has spare reads going we should try for Standalone, and Family drama.

What we think?

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments So stand alone is basically a free read correct. As long as it's not part of a series?

message 178: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I'll finish my second book tomorrow and I think I'll wait until tomorrow to really gopher. See where things are at.

message 179: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I don't know what it is but all my shortest good toppler books don't want to fit anywhere on the cards. I have a bunch of shortish books that will work though

What are some options? Maybe we can help see if they fit somewhere.

message 183: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I have identified several potential reads on Kindle Unlimited:
Cold Poison would work for mystery, set in U.S., or set in 1900's (ca. 1950's in Los Angeles).

The Bitter Taste of Betrayal for mystery or food on the cover.

The Zephyr Gene for Title Starts with Z.

message 184: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments I can do House of Names for family drama. I will start it part way through my commute tomorrow, since I should finish Winter part way through my drive to work.

message 186: by jaxnsmom (last edited Feb 12, 2018 08:00PM) (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I started a book for Title starts with Z this afternoon. After one of those sneaky naps I'm back to reading it. If it ends up being wasted there, it's also fit for set in US and standalone.

message 188: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) I just finished the 2 open books Dragons of Spring Dawning and The Demon's Librarian

and will start the remaining 2 from Card 1:
A Darker Shade of Magic for First in Series which also goes for written by female Author and
Snowbrother Snowbrother by S.M. Stirling for Snow on Cover.

I'll probably finish Snowbrother tonight. So I'll do some gophering and see what categories I can still cover.
Do let me know please if I should start tomorrow with The Last Unicorn (The Last Unicorn, #1) by Peter S. Beagle for Animal Perspective

message 189: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments In order from shortest first I have these 3 options
Alcatraz Versus the Shattered Lens
Starship Grifters
West Cork

I'm sure they have potential places but I always overlook things when there's a lot of categories.

Thanks :D

I stayed in Schull last year. Gorgeous town. Do you want to take proper name from me and read that?

I better check with Kristie, but West Cork is a proper name/noun.

message 197: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) @Rusalka - If Jmom's read doesn't fit for standalone I could do that also. I have lots of those to choose from. :)

Next to Beagle's book I can do one more, perhaps even 2. I normally wouldn't be able to read that much in a week's time but as it happened, I have been ordered to "rest" for 10 days as I've just gotten the chicken pox.🐔🐣 So no work for me this week and lots of staying home. Confined at home would be better said! Which would be probably unbearable without the books. Good for the toppler though! :D

message 198: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Oh no! Hope you feel better! Chicken pox is fine if you have a mild dose, so I hope that's what you have.

I know it's horrible if it's a big one, so rest up and look after yourself. My Mum's had singles every year for the past couple, so make sure you heal up.

But I understand. It's like when I pulled my back for a toppler a few years ago. Flat on the couch and bored, so perfect reading time!

Not sure what Jmom is reading, as she hasn't linked it, but I think this will help a lot. I'd get started with animal read now, and maybe see how everyone's going with their card 1 reads before the next one. Awesome you have options though.

message 199: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Oh You're right Alcatraz and his family all have special powers. They're unsuperheroes. They have powers like breaking things. Being late. That's what makes the series so fun is Sanderson took the mundane ordinary things and made them work as powers. I always forget about that

message 200: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Oh no Laura. Adult chicken pox are supposed to be horrible although I was 12 when I had them and I even had them in my mouth and throat and I don't remember them being any fun at all
