Casceil | 2728 comments I will finish witches today, and I plan to try to read one more. I've found a book for "Mountain Setting," so I claimed it on the planning card for Card Two.

message 302: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Geez it's only 947am here

message 303: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments I finished my read and I think I can read one more book before the toppler ends. I need to figure out what needs to be read.

message 304: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Good question. I think we still need Classic and author debut. We might still need recent release.

message 305: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I read for debut, and published 2017/18. I think classic might be all that's left on card 2.

message 306: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Classic does seem to be the only one no one is reading.

message 307: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I think there was a book read that qualified as classic that was used in another square. Don't know which one, so don't know if it could be switched and another read in its place.

message 308: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I read The Shearing Gun that takes place in Australia, which is on card 3. If we want to try to fill that column we'd need cozy mystery, scifi/fantasy, free read and an R author. I can read the R author. Sorry, I'm not up for a classic, I looked at listopia and my brain is running from the idea.

message 309: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'm going to read an R author now.

message 310: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Does someone want to exchange with me and take the MC with special powers? I'm about to start that now together with the train read. But I can do classic instead.

message 311: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Give me a few minutes - I might be able to find something.

message 312: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) ok. I'll start checking for classic.
I think my book A Darker Shade of Magic may also be used for MC with special powers as the MC, Kell is a blood magician being able to do magic with the help of his blood. That should count as special powers right? If yes then we could move that to MC with special powers and look for another first in series which should be pretty easy to find.

message 313: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments My read Gifts fits both MC with special powers and first in series. I can then do the female author again. :)

message 314: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Exactly how are we defining special powers? Limited to humans? I have one with a male witch, but the blurb also mentions a human that can dissolve spoons with his mind, so I'm thinking that could work.

message 315: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Pragya's suggestion is great Jmom. Gifts would be perfect for MC with special powers and if she takes female author to fill the gap than you would be back to Card 3.

Should I take the classic guys?

message 316: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Pragya, that sounds great, but I just one-clicked a book for kindle that fits special powers. That way we won't mess up too much of what's already been plotted. If you read another book, can it fit one listed in post 308? Except R author. I'm going to fit that in too.
Off to start Flight of Magpies for special powers.

message 317: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Laura - Yes, please take the classic.

message 318: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Done. I'll start on the train and classic then.

How many hours do we actually have left? around 30?

message 319: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments jaxnsmom wrote: "Pragya, that sounds great, but I just one-clicked a book for kindle that fits special powers. That way we won't mess up too much of what's already been plotted. If you read another book, can it fit..."

Sure, Jmom. I will try to find a cozy mystery so that someone can pick up the easy free read one.

message 320: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments GR doesn't classify many books as cozy mysteries. Would The Full Cupboard of Life fit?

message 321: by Pragya (new)

message 322: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Thank you Pragya. :)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Pragya wrote: "GR doesn't classify many books as cozy mysteries. Would The Full Cupboard of Life fit?"

Yes, it does. If you want any other possibilities:

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

Cozies differ in that they are less bloody, little to no cursing or sex, a lot calmer than a lot of mysteries.

Perfect, thank you! Starting with it.

message 325: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I read a classic for book to movie so if someone has a book to movie mine could be switched.

message 326: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) book to movie? let me check my shelves. If I find something nicer than To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf I'll ask for a switch.

message 327: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Damn. I have been looking for half hour but can't find my copy in my overcrowded bookshelf. Will have to find something else. Or maybe go with a free read since no one is opting for it.

message 328: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Starting the notebook for Card 3 free read

message 329: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments The notebook also fits the book to movie.

message 330: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Travis you are great! :) I'm gonna take Veronika Decides to Die for book to movie so yours can be moved to classics. This one goes for book to movie right? I checked in Wiki and it says there that a movie was made after it.

message 331: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments We currently are using a cozy mystery in the free space on Card 2, The Bitter Taste of Betrayal. If we plug that into cozy mystery on Card 3, then the space we would have to fill is a free space, so any book would do.

message 332: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4030 comments Perfect, Casceil.

message 333: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I finished Flight of Magpies for MC has special powers on card 2. Now to start an R author for card 3.

Do we have someone reading for the free book on card 2?

message 334: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments If I've followed the discussion correctly, it sounds like we might have most of a column on Card 3, but we still need science fiction/fantasy. I don't know if I can finish another book in time, but I will look for something that fits Fantasy.

message 335: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments I might end up finishing the book I am reading. It’s a mystery/thriller with lawyer MC set in US, I think some of that may help. I didn’t think I would get this far, but it is going fast and I could stay up late and finish it before services tomorrow.

message 336: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I had no idea we would get this far. Look at you crazy things!! I've updated the spreadsheet with the musings and wheeling and dealings above.

I'm just about to finish cleaning the house (stopping for coffee), then will read until my cousin arrives. She's just told me that they have plans for dinner with other friends, so I may be able to finish my book.

Problem is I now don't know where it will fit Strip Jack. But we can worry about that if I complete. I am thinking i could slip it in to author with an R, if Jmom's current read fits elsewhere on card 3. But I'll check in later and let you all know how it's going.

I'm amazed at you all, particularly with all our time zone issues.

message 337: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments If we don't find an easier way, we can put Strip Jack into the Mystery spot on Card 2, and move Cool Poison to "Release before 2000" on Card 3. I found something to read for fantasy, Dark Flames, and I am about a third of the way through it, so I have hopes of finishing it in time.

message 338: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I finished my R author book, Husband Hunters. This is the only square it fits, except for the free read which Pragya is reading.

message 339: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Finished The Christmas Train for trains and started Veronika Decides to Die for book to movie (so we can move Travis's book to classics)

I may be able to read one extra book this evening. But which category do we need? It seems we already have a column on card 3 fully covered. Is there anything missing that I could fill?

If Casceil's cozy is moved to card 3, will Beth's book be needed to fill the free read on card 2? Just want to make sure the free read gets filled.

message 341: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) I can take a free read. Should I?

message 342: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Laura wrote: "I can take a free read. Should I?"

It's hard to tell at the moment. My brain is being overridden by my stomach so I'm ordering a pizza to see if that helps. You might want to pick a book that will fit a square on card 3 in case the free read isn't needed. I don't think we'll get another row/column filled, but at least we'll get the points :)

message 343: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments If you take the free read for card two Laura I think. Then Casceil's can be moved to Cozy on card 3. Beth's read would fit lawyer if she completes.

Actually Strip Jack would fit that too, it was released in 1992. Missed that one.

message 345: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I've started The Perils of Praline: Or, the Amorous Adventures of a Southern Gentleman in Hollywood, which is tagged humor on its GR page. So far not so much humorous as stupid.

message 346: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) In that case I'll take Ghost Hunter by Michelle Paver. It may fit for the Free Read on Card 2 as well as for Last in Series on Card 3 in case Free Read will already be taken by the time I'm done.

message 347: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Finished The Perils of Praline: Or, the Amorous Adventures of a Southern Gentleman in Hollywood and it was worse than I feared. It's for humor on card 3.

I'm off to bed. No more books for me. I have Red Cross blood donation in the morning and then meeting a friend.

message 348: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Sleep well, Jmom. Sorry it ended with a bad read

message 349: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments It'll probably take me most the morning before I finish my last book. Also there is just under 8 hours left folks.

message 350: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have finished The Couple Next Door for set in the US on Card 2. Unfortunately I was less than impressed with it. I thought it was poorly written with flat, unlikeable characters and far-fetched plot twists. I was surprised it's as popular as it is.

That's it for me for this toppler as I don't have enough free time over the next few hours to read another book.

We have done so well! Great job everyone!
