Camille (Ashera) | 73 comments Hello, I am a fan of the HP series. However, I had a question in my mind that was unexplained whether in the books or the movies, how can Muggle-borns (like Hermione Granger) get wizarding money for the first time? They certainly don't work, as they are too young to earn their gold by themselves. So, how do they get all the money for their school supplies, Wizards and Witches' robes and even magical pets (like when our favourite Muggle-born bought Crookshanks in book 3)? I re-read the books many times, didn't get an answer to my question. If anyone's got an answer, please reply to my thread, because I really want to know how they get wizarding money for their first time in the Wizarding world.

P.M. Pevato (goodreadscompmpevato) | 10 comments I can't recall the exchange rate or if it was specifically mentioned eg £ to galleons, sickles and knuts. Was it Chamber of Secrets that Hermione and her parents met Harry and the Weasleys?? And they had to exchange $$$ ?
I don't have my books handy.
Better still: what would your exchange rate be? Remember Harry bought every different type of treat on the Hogwart's Express in Philosopher's Stone. Hagrid went to Gringotts with Harry and withdrew money from his parents vault. Ron didn't have money for treats or new robes or books. Mr Weasley made wizard money. I am guessing there's not much difference. A big family on one income either currency can be a challenge. Just my thoughts!!

Gayatri Balasubramanian | 8 comments Where will the money the muggleborns give to the Goblins go then? The goblins can hardly put the money back into circulation. So why would they want muggle money?

Nikhita Salian | 27 comments The Muggle money is converted to Wizarding money at Gringotts. It's in the second book

Nidhi Bhatt | 43 comments Hermione and her parents went to Gringotts to exchange the currency into Wizarding money. Of course her parents pay the fee as any 11-old's parents would.

The addmission letter from Hogwarts received received before the first year for muggle borns might have insturctions to enter Diagonal Alley and how to make the currency exchange in Gringotts!
