You're very welcome. Any time.

He does, but his mutual friends are folks with high friend counts who accept requests from anyone. They are great people, but not ones I look to have employed some sort of screen prior to acceptance.
He also sent me a friend request and, funny, he's changed his profile photo today. He doesn't scare me, in terms of spam, but it depends on what you want in your friend profile. I would rather engage with folks and tend to accept and send requests to people who will comment on reviews, like my updates, write reviews of their own and otherwise engage 1:1 on books. There's nothing wrong with approaching differently, of course.

p.s. I don't have a challenge question and will not jump through hoops to answer others' challenge questions either. I understand that some on GR feel very strongly about the value of a challenge question, but in my experience, that value hasn't been demonstrated on either side of the coin, e.g., having one didn't improve the quality of those who sent me requests and ditching it didn't change that quality, but having one can indeed discourage or annoy the shy and/or efficient. So not worth it to me.

I've had people give me such bizarre responses to my question that I was glad for the opportunity to avoid them. My question (why do you want to be my friend) is just designed to weed out bots, spammers and the unmotivated. I accept most requests, but since I'm not a friend collector, I don't care if I miss some. I don't like having a lot of random people appear above the community reviews on the book pages.

Excellent.
This actually isn't a group issue, but I wanted to let you know that I've had to report several friend requests for spam. You might have received these also, which is why I'm posting this here. The friend requests are soliciting a website for e-books; there is a space when you click on the friend request to flag the request itself. I've now had four of these puppies, and support told me to flag them each time they appear.
Just a public service announcement on my part -- rather than just "ignore," flag them first.

I received a friend request yesterday from an Ohio screen-print T-shirt company that didn’t even try to hide its purpose. I reported it using to contact us form, and received a response from GR this morning that offered an even more efficient method — click on the account’s avatar or user photo, and beneath the photo will appear a flag link, which we can click on to report the account as a spam account. Sounded like advice to pass on to our members.

I have received a couple of these also. The most recent I did click on the avatar, but did not see a flag link. Nor any place on the friend profile to flag them. So I just blocked the user.

Dear people in this group:
For the last few weeks I've been deleting comments from what appears to be a scammer who's having his or her fun making comments in Korean. I am not against people commenting in their own languages, but the same phrases keep appearing so I know it's spam.
I don't go to all of the threads on a daily basis, so if you should happen to see such comments, please let one of the moderators know. I'm sure we will be very grateful. Thanks!!

Yeah, it's going around both here, and on the web generally. I report it when I see it, wherever I see it. (I hate spammers!) Good luck in the good fight.

Annoying but I just deleted them. Too much of a hassle to report every incidence.

LOL. I'm glad we're not alone here.

You can always flag those posts, and the GR people are pretty good about getting back to you. Or you can just contact them directly.

I rarely get comments on my BLog but I've deleted a couple that seem to be advertising health products or something like that.

How delightful, lol! Perhaps I’ll find that money tree in my back yard I’ve been seeking for years.
