Is there a policy for changing the Author Name of a book?

I ask this because I have a First Edition of this hardback book from 1989 which is written by R Allen Brown NOT Gabriel Ronay. (ISBN is 085115243 )

If you google Gabriel Ronay you will find he's only written 4 books and nothing about Anglo-Norman castles.

If it's wrong, yes, it can be corrected. I checked (amazon and worldcat both have R. Allen Brown as the author) and changed it.

Concerning this issue... I added a book in a language other than English, so I listed the author name in that other language. A while ago, the author of this book created a regular Goodreads account.
I tried to change the name of the author to the correct one so that it links with the correct account, but was unable to do so as there is another author of the same name.
Do you have any idea about what I am supposed to do?

Mary, can you post links to the book and author's Goodreads account? If the author has been translated, then the English name should be first author and the non-English one - second.

I actually didn't save the changes because it gave me the option of either keeping the old one (in Arabic) or choosing another author of the same name. The author I'm talking about registered on Goodreads as a regular user with his name in English.

If he/she hasn't claimed their author profile (they can become Goodreads author by clicking on the "Is that you? Let us know" link on the author profile) and have just user profile, you don't have to do anything.

If they have author profile, you can add that name as additional author to the book.

They actually haven't claimed their author profile

I have a similar challenge.

There is an entry called James Hornfischer But as you can see on that page, it really need to be merged/linked with This profile

Which has been claimed by the real author. Alas, even though I am a librarian, I don't know if I should do this, if yes, the right way to do it. Any thoughts ?

this name should be merged to the main profile, so I've done this.
The main profile is not claimed, just has bio and picture added.

Sorry I just have read that you are a librarian too, so I could have left the changes for you to make.
All I've done is changed the name of the author profile, so it merged to the existing 'main' one.

For the claimed profiles (with GR author 'star') the merge need to be done by GR staff and you would need to post in the thread below to request merging
