If I Stay
question
Jordan Kopp Review 2

If I Stay by Gayle Foreman was a really good read in my opinion. The way the story unfolds was really captivating to me. I really like how in the beginning it is kind of hard to tell what is going to happen in the story, it starts off so regularly as their family just does normal family things and the reader is left to wonder what the story is really going to be about because the beginning allows for the story to be very ambiguous. But then the story begins so suddenly that I was left speechless and wanting more. When they were driving it had been just as normal as the rest thus far and so when suddenly we were right in the thick of the drama the book became so enticing because I was left wondering what could possibly happen and where the book could go from here. The part I liked the most about the book was once Mia was in the hospital trying to make a choice. The flashbacks of her family and boyfriend were so vivid and sweet, but that also made them heart wrenching and awful because we know she is never going to have that again. I found myself struggling right along with her as she bounced back from stay to go. She has so many reasons so stay and to fight but we as readers also feel and deeply understand her equal desire to give up and be with her family. I could never really decide on whether choice I wanted her to make. Of course I wanted her to make it since it was already such a huge tragedy, but she was so close with her family and its hard to think about her on her own without them with all those painful memories haunting her for the rest of her life. I really wanted to see her wake up because I loved Adam soooo much as a character and I want to see their relationship have success but again I found myself wondering if that was enough reason for her to wake up because her love for her family is always gonna be different from her love for her boyfriend. I was worried if she woke up for him that maybe it would not work out and she'd always resent him because she has this huge hole in her heart now and maybe he just can't fill it. My favorite part of the whole book is when her grandpa tells her that he understands if she wants to go. You don't see that from Adam or anyone else who talks to her. It's always people telling her to fight and that they need to see her again but him saying that is so beautiful and sad and sweet. As much as everyone loves Mia and does not want to lose her too, he understands that it just might be too hard to come back knowing that she will never see her family again.
