Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Anyone watching this? It's on TNT. I've been recording it so I can watch it later on. It's about a series of murder's of young men that take place in 1898, New York. Apparently, there's a deranged unstable killer on the loose and a man who's known as an alienist is trying to solve the crime under the noses of the authorities.

So far I really like it and they say it's the #1 new hit show but a lot of channels claim that lol. But yeah, it's quite a show, very detailed and very well paced.

Heidi Ward (battyward) | 103 comments Loved the book way back when. It's definitely gorgeous to look at. Still warming up to the characters though.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Still need to catch up as I'm about three episodes behind but so far so good.

One thing I don't get though..why do they have boys dressed up as girls being prostitutes? So weird..

Because even back in the day there were those whose tastes were for boys acting like girls. Not that there's anything wrong with that.... And those who exploited the fact. And because it made for a seedier plot than the tired old Jack the Ripper killing female prostitutes.

Robert Kratky (bolorkay) | 342 comments Haven't read the Caleb Carr book, but the series is very suspenseful but somewhat graphic. NYC politics of 1890s adds a lot to the advancement of the story.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Yeah I figured as much but I just find it odd there's no girl prostitutes. It definitely makes for a unique storyline that's for sure.

I'm sure there are female prostitutes in the city, but this killer' specifically targets boys, so that's why the police are always investigating them.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments People were talking about this in the Mindhunter thread so I thought I'd bring it back up so people could talk about it. This is a good series and definitely has a dark gothic theme. I enjoyed it.

Valerie | 5 comments Hey Justin! I definitely love the series. And the writer was dedicated to getting even the smallest details right. I really felt like I was transported to turn of the century New York City.
