Just for fun please. I won’t have much time to read in March.

Do all of the books read have to be YA?

Do all of the books read have to be YA?"
No, they don't have to be YA. :)

Books can be any genre, they don't have to be YA ☺

Usually not after teams are made for medium or serious. Fun is always open. ^-^

Teams will be made around the 24th at the latest. After teams are made people will only be able to join Serious and Medium teams if there are open spaces, so to avoid disappointment you should try to sign-up before teams are made. People wanting to join 'Just-for-Fun' teams, and Solo players, can sign-up at any time ☺

Alright, thanks! Then I'll figure everything out after my exams are over :)

Can I read nonfiction books as part of this?"
Yes, you can read non-fiction books ☺

We're not actually playing Scrabble the way the game is traditionally played, we're reading books which begin with the letters used in a Scrabble game. The first post should explain things fairly well ☺ https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

This will be a team reading challenge which will run from March 1st 2018, to March 31st 2018 inclusively. Results will be annouced on April 1st 2018.
To complete this challenge, participants will be split into teams. Each team will read books of their own choice (which also fit the challenge guidlines), and points will be awarded based on the first letter of the title of the book ('A' and 'The' may be skipped if needed). Points will also be awarded based on the length of the book, and whether you have buddy read your book.
Each letter may only be used the same number of times as it appears in a scrabble game though (unless all tiles have been used and the game starts again) -
Letter frequency = A×9, B ×2, C ×2, D ×4, E ×12, F ×2, G ×3, H ×2, I ×9, J ×1, K ×1, L ×4, M ×2, N ×6, O ×8, P ×2, Q ×1, R ×6, S ×4, T ×6, U ×4, V ×2, W ×2, X ×1, Y ×2, Z ×1, blank ×2
Rules:
* Each letter has its own points score (as above).
* Each letter can only be used as many times as it appears on a scrabble board (as above).
* Blanks are freebies, and can be used for any letter, they will be awarded 1 point each for letter value.
* 'A' and 'The' at the beginning of a title may be skipped if necessary, and the first letter of the next word used instead.
* If a team manages to complete all 100 tiles, they may start the board for a second time.
* Books must be read between the 1st of March to the 31st of March inclusive. Books started before March may be used to claim points for pages read in March, but cannot be used to cross off letters.
* Books must be over 100 pages long, without illustrations. (150 pages minimum for middle-grade books, 300 pages minimum for poetry or books written in verse.)
*Buddy reads must have a minimum of 4 comments to count, and comments must be about the book (saying 'I've started', 'I'm on chapter 3' etc. without details will not count) and must take place in this group.
*A review or 4 detailed updates will be required for each book read.
* You are welcome to read physical books, ebooks, and audiobooks for this challenge, and you are also welcome to read in any language as long as you provide us with a translation of your review/updates.
* Re-reads are allowed as long as its been at least a year since you last read the book, and you write a new review or updates.
* Our regular challenge rules can be found here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
* This challenge will run on Goodreads time, which is Pacific Standard Time - https://greenwichmeantime.com/time-zo... . You may start on your own timezone, but must finish in your own time zone too. The review threads will close at 00:00 on April 1st Goodreads time though.
* You can use other editions which have other titles, but only if the title is written using English letters, editions which are written using non-English letters won't count. Eg: Thirteen Reasons Why could also be used for the letter 'P' using this edition Por trece razones. But you couldn't use this edition Δεκατρία γιατί.
* Higher page count editions may be used when claiming points for pages, but page counts for iphone/ibook editions will not be accepted, and neither will page counts for audiobook editions (you are still welcome to read in these formats, but must use a different page count). We also request that you leave us a link to the edition with the page count that you are using, if the book has multiple editions with different page counts.
*Titles which start with a number can be used, and count for the letter with which the number starts with, eg:
Points:
* Points will be awarded based on the letter used:
(1 point)-A, E, I, O, U, L, N, S, T, R.
(2 points)-D, G.
(3 points)-B, C, M, P.
(4 points)-F, H, V, W, Y.
(5 points)-K.
(8 points)- J, X.
(10 points)-Q, Z.
* Points will also be awarded based on pages read:
*100 - 199 pages = 1 point
*200 - 299 pages = 2 points
*300 - 399 pages = 3 points
*400 - 499 pages = 4 points
*500 - 599 pages = 5 points
*600+ pages = 6 points
(maximum of 6 points per book)(Minimum page count of 100 pages)
*Buddy reads DOUBLE your points score for pages, so a 300 page book + buddy read = 6 points. 600 page book + buddy read = 12 points. (Bonus points for buddy reads will only be given if the buddy read has taken place in our group.)
* Points will be awarded as buddy read points + page points + letter points. So
* Books do not have to be buddy read, buddy reading just earns you more points. So
* There will only be individual rankings for solo players in this game, as not everyone will be able to use the higher value letters within the teams.
*Solo players will get all 100 tiles each, which can only be repeated once they have completed all 100.
*Mods will keep track of each teams points and letters used using the following system -
Team name:
This challenge will be a team challenge. When signing up please let us know if you want to join a 'Serious' team (reading 12 books or more each), a 'Medium' team (reading 8-12 books each) or a 'Just for fun' team (reading any number of books each).
You may also sign up as a solo participant, and will compete against your other solo competitors. Solo participants will not compete against people in teams for this challenge.
***Please be sure that you want to participate if you are thinking of joining a 'Serious' or 'Medium' team, as your teammates will lose out if you sign up but don't participate.***
Thank you! ☺
