What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

A book about a young boy who get a job to be an apprentice to an old man who’s basically a creature handler and he watches over a witch in grave behind his house? The boy also becomes best friends with a girl who turns out to be a witch because she had pointy shoes. I read it last year and remember it had several sequels.
