Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Hey, everyone. It’s already time to start thinking about our March Group Read. Please nominate any horror novel you'd love for the group to read that hasn't been a HA read in the last year. A list of our previous reads can be found here. There is no theme this month.

Authors please do not nominate your own book.

Books with multiple nominations are more likely to make it to the final poll so please “second” and “third” and suggestions you'd like to nominate.

Thanks, everyone!

Jamie Zaccaria | 172 comments I'm in the mood for some short stories so how about The Barrens and Others by F. Paul Wilson

I'm especially intrigued because the feature story takes place in the NJ Pine Barrens and has to do with the Jersey Devil, so home territory stuff for me.

I'll also suggest The Devil Crept In by Ania Ahlborn because I just bought it :-)

"For years, the residents of Deer Valley have murmured about these unsolved crimes…and that a killer may still be lurking around their quiet town. Now, fear is reborn—"

Ami Morrison | 234 comments Oh! Oh! I have a new book that I have been dying to read! :D SomeTHING is lurking in the deep sea....

Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep, #1) by Mira Grant Into the Drowning Deep

" New York Times bestselling author Mira Grant, author of the renowned Newsflesh series, takes us to a new world of ancient mysteries and mythological dangers come to life. Seven years ago, the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a "mockumentary" bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend. It was lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a maritime tragedy. Now, a new crew has been assembled. But this time they're not out to entertain. Some seek to validate their life's work. Some seek the greatest hunt of all. Some seek the truth. But for the ambitious young scientist Victoria Stewart, this is a voyage to uncover the fate of the sister she lost.Whatever the truth may be, it will only be found below the waves. But the secrets of the deep come with a price. "

Thanks Matthew. I tend to tune out on YA pretty quickly. Looking to read something I know very little about. Both of these sound interesting.

I don't know about Drowning Deep, but McDowell is definitely not YA. I haven't read Gilded Needles yet, but I loved his The Elementals. It's an exquisite slow burn Southern Gothic.

I feel the same way about YA titles... and I am pretty sure that Into the Drowning Deep is NOT a YA title. It was not in the YA section of the bookstore when I bought it. :)

message 44: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 42 comments Richard Laymon died 17 years ago this very month. I'd like to bring attention to this man's brilliant talent for writing great horror.

I'm nominating Richard Laymon's 'One Rainy Night' as well as I'd like to second a previously nominated 'Dark Mountain'- also by Laymon.

I've just started 'Dream Woods' by Patrick Lacey which would be a kickass group read for us.
