It would also be a good idea to join a few reading groups. Many of the titles that are chosen are worth the time and effort. It will be entertaining as well as give you a perspective on writing from the view of an audience member. I have found that reading also helps to improve your writing skills. Find a genre within your prevue as well as one outside to try. There is no commitment outside of the amount of time you want to contribute to participate. The best part is that it allows for engagement that fosters ideas.
Good luck!

Terah, you are welcome. No, I have never paid to join a writers group. I do not know where you are in the world but I looked online into the networking community on Meetup.com. It lists many social groups by interest and you ask the join and start attending. Most are completely free and some require a small fee little 10 dollars. I am in three different writer focused groups and some meet once a month and others meet every other week. I use Good Reads for reading groups.

If you write fantasy, SF or horror, go over to critters.org, where you can crit and be critted. If you write romance, go over to the RWA web site and look for a local group. There's sure to be someone near you.
also what else is on good reads that I should check out for writing? Is there anything the people really like on this website that I should check out?
