Sandra | 336 comments I'm looking for a series (3 or 4 volumes) of novels about a French family that I used to read in the early 1990s. I think they were published in the 1970s or 1980s.

I believe the books were originally published in France and translated to English. The family had 3 or 4 daughters, all in their teens or early 20s. The mother was an artist, a painter who used to take one day a week entirely to herself to paint. The father may have been a doctor.

In one of the books, the family visited another country (I can't recall where they lived or where the vacation was) and one of the daughters met a young man and got pregnant. The family was very accepting of this and the baby boy was welcomed into the family. The daughter never married the father of the child. I think they did have contact, though, and a friendly relationship.

Any idea what books these could have been? I think they were weeded from the collection of my local library, sadly.

Thanks!

I believe these are the books by Janine Boissard. A Matter of Feeling is the one that I remember most from my childhood, but I don't believe that's the one you specifically mentioned. She wrote several books about this family, though.

Sandra | 336 comments Yes! Those are the ones! I looked on WorldCat and the one about the pregnancy is called "A Question of Happiness." Thank you so much!
