Our March read will be A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.

"Wild nights are my glory," the unearthly stranger told them. "I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me be on my way. Speaking of way, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract".

Meg's father had been experimenting with this fifth dimension of time travel when he mysteriously disappeared. Now the time has come for Meg, her friend Calvin, and Charles Wallace to rescue him. But can they outwit the forces of evil they will encounter on their heart-stopping journey through space?

I'll be reading this in March with my son (as long as he's okay with taking a short break from The Series of Unfortunate Events)!

I have never read this before, but I remember it being on my bookshelf when I was a kid. Just never got around to it. I'll be using it for "Childhood classic you've never read" for the popsugar challenge.

I just read this for another group last month. I had not read it as a child and really wish I had. I feel like I would have enjoyed it much more then, and the nostalgia of that would have helped in this read. But, reading it as an adult for the first time left it feeling a bit lacking for me. I'll add more detail in other threads so as not to ruin it for others.

I am going to read it and I read it as a teenager my freshman year of high school. I distinctly remember being embarrassed to be retrieving a book from the children’s section of the school library... but I was glad that I did.

I've never read it. I picked up my copy yesterday. Since the movie is coming out it was right in front of the store, so no embarrassment for me going into the kids section. I found a Judy Bloom book in the bargain bin too, so much for not buying books and reading what I already have.

This was one of my favorite books when I was a child and I am looking forward to re-reading it!

How serendipitous that my library copy just came through in time to read this with you all. This will be my first time reading it and I'll start once I finish The Alienist, probably by this weekend.

Never read it, but the fact that Sade agreed to make a song for the movie definitely managed to spark an interest in me. There must be something noteworthy about it, or at least about the movie.

I just started it this morning. Have an old, well loved copy from my boyfriend's sister in law. Praying it doesn't fall apart in my hands...

I will be re-reading the book (I just bought the trilogy, never read the second or third books) but it’s been about 20 years so I remember very little about it. I’m excited for a trip down memory lane!

I read this book as a child. I also read the trilogy but didn't enjoy the third book as much as the first two. I finished rereading it today and am surprised at the reaction of people who are reading it the first time as adults. Maybe it's the nostalgia glasses kicking in... I really enjoyed the symbolism.

Don't feel bad, I did too. I never even heard of it until I saw a preview for it before Star Wars.

I knew about it. But only the basic "Meg's father is taken let's go on a journey" synopsis. It's a lot different from what I expect. Good. But different.

I am reading this for the first time also. I am on page 147 and am really enjoying the book. I'm trying to read all the wonderful books that I missed when I was younger (just didn't read at all then for some stupid reason) but I am certainly making up for it now. When I went out and bought the book, I just bought the whole series.

I read this as a kid and loved it. I just finished rereading it - I still enjoyed it but forgot how much religion was in it. It definitely didn't hold up quite the same since now I'm an adult (and a scientist), there were several anachronisms that were hard to overlook. I'm looking forward to checking out the new film.

Like a lot of you guys I read it as a child and just finished rereading it. It was so much better the second time :) I also saw the movie, and while it was great, it was so much different from the book. Just a heads-up for anyone planning on seeing it!

I just finished it today, thought it was a good story, but a little distracting the way some of the characters would quote in different languages famous sayings. I didn't understand the whole point of that. Going to see the movie this weekend.

I read this in 5th grade, just started it again last night. The nostalgia is already great! I hope it’s as good as I remember it being!

Watched the movie with my mom today. I think they did a pretty good job adapting it for a film.

Love the "A Wrinkle in Time" book and whole series and have read it multiple times. I don't post much here but wanted to chime in with a companion read recommendation.

When You Reach Me ~ Rebecca Stead

Loved it! Soooo many references to A Wrinkle in Time. :) Enough that I think anyone who wants to read When You Reach Me should read Wrinkle in Time first. Geared toward ages 9-14 but one of those books that an adult can read as a light read because it isn't dumbed down.
