Gj Echternkamp | 7 comments Started reading this at Goodwill, later I regretted not purchasing it. It begins in a city, where a roguish man is tasked by some sort of council to kill a witch or sorceress who resides in a mountain (or volcano?). He is an assassin or wizard, or perhaps someone who specializes in fighting magic-users. It was clearly the beginning of a long journey. He might have known the witch or had some previous relationship with her. I've been trying to find this for years!

I read all of the first pages of these on Amazon just now, and unfortunately none of them are the book I'm looking for. Thanks for the tip though!

Right! I'm following also. That sounds like a book to check out.

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments It reminds me of "Earthwitch", by Patricia C. Wrede in Book of Enchantments.

Gj Echternkamp | 7 comments It is definitely Issola by Steven Brust. I got some of the details wrong (he's not sent to kill the witch, but she does live in a mountain).
I'm about 50 pages in and I'm finding the dialogue pretty entertaining / witty. Also the pacing is fast and fun. So far, I recommended it.
