And the winner of the popular vote is...

A Ballad for Georg Henig

The lottery winner is...
Melissa who picked: Titus Groan

So which books will you be reading?

message 2: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Tough choice.... I’m going with Titus Groan!

message 3: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1608 comments Mod
That was either our 2nd or third top vote recipient so great choice!

message 4: by Dianne (new)

Dianne | 225 comments Woo hoo! Titus Groan!

Melissa Jen wrote: "That was either our 2nd or third top vote recipient so great choice!"

Good, it was a tough choice....after everything else I wanted to pick one that seems to have decent interest, sounded good, and was at least available on kindle if not at the local library.

When are you announcing the next diversify book choices for March?

Probably tomorrow, at the latest the 23rd

message 7: by Gina (new)

Gina Andrews | 58 comments Will definitely borrow the audio version of Titus Groan from the library and might also read another book, since A Ballad of Georg Henig is unavailable.

message 8: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I’ll also add here, for anyone who has Hoopla or Scribd, they both have Titus on audiobook....No ebook though, so I’ll probably still go for the ebook through amazon.

message 9: by Dree (new)

Dree | 243 comments I have read both of these books, so will spend April trying to catch up on The Water Margin.

I ordered A Ballad of Georg Henig from ILL so that is the one I will read. I read Titus Groan a while back so will not revisit that one.

message 11: by Leni (new)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 570 comments W00t! Titus Groan! Thanks Melissa!

I am currently in Hay-on-Wye, otherwise known as "The Book Town". There are almost 40 independent bookstores here, for new, used, and rare books. So if I can find Georg Henig anywhere it will be here!

message 12: by Paula (new)

Paula S (paula_s) | 220 comments I have Titus Groan and I can't find George Henig, so my choice is easy. Titus Groan it is!

message 13: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tstan) | 559 comments Titus Groan is another book that’s been on my shelf forever. So as long as it doesn’t crumble to dust when I pick it up, I’ll be reading that one.
Georg Heinig is fantastic, and well worth reading if he can be found!

message 14: by Dianne (new)

Dianne | 225 comments Leni where is that? Sounds awesome!

message 15: by George P. (new)

George P. | 726 comments I can get either of these books from libraries I have access to in my area. I'm going to go with A Ballad for GH (from the university library) because it has amazing average rating, and also it's short, which is usually a good thing. I already had "A Ballad.." in my to-read list but at #267, so this is a big move-up. I read my first novel by a Bulgarian writer last year, Auto-da-Fé, which is hella long, but pretty good.

message 16: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments Titus Groan was one of the worst books I ever read! Last time A Ballad for GH was chosen as a BOTM İ couldn't get it anywhere. if it is still in the Drop Box by April I would love to read it.

message 17: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 166 comments Sigh. A Ballad for George Henig costs a fortune to buy . . .best price was $21 for a used copy so Titus Groan I guess even though it doesnt appeal to me at all. At least it is available for Kindle.

If anyone would be interested in splitting the cost on the Ballad book let me know. You may keep the book afterward and resell it if you wish. I would pay $10 to read it but not $20.

I was not a fan either, so I never started Gormenghast which I own.

Dianne | 225 comments Titus Groan is a book of magic - and so I think a reader needs to be a fan of that genre and willing to enter that world. For those that are able to step over the threshold, it really is wonderful.

Anita, I ordered Georg Henig from UK Amazon and I expect to get it by mid-March. I want to send you if you wish after I read, you don't need to pay me anything. Only problem is that I don't know how long it will take for a book to be delivered from Serbia (Europe) to your place. I guess it could take a while...

Anita, I think I'm going to order a used copy online... I'm not thrilled at all with the price, but I will send it to you when I'm done. I see that Tatjana also offered - I'm in the US, so not sure which of us could get it to you fastest (and cheapest)?

This is available at the University of Iowa library. I bet you could get it through ILL , or make a road trip. Anyone who lives in Iowa can get a card there, since it’s a state university.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I have previously read Titus Groan and Gormenghast so will not be revisiting I can get Ballad for £12 from Amazon UK but will have a look round see if it is cheaper anywhere else my library as usual don't have it.

That's good to know... unfortunately, my little bitty town library doesn't participate in ILL or even in the Open Access Program so that I could use one of the larger libraries nearby. I'm not sure if it's worth the road trip when I can just order it.

message 25: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 166 comments Tatjana, What a lovely offer! I just think sending it internationally will be way too costly for you. I have done it, and it is ridiculous. But I am very grateful for your kindness!!

message 26: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 166 comments Jenni,

Thank you so much! If you identify a used copy and go that route I would be happy to share the cost! If you go another route I believe I have a plan B . . .Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness!!!

Jenni is on storygraph (sprainedbrain) Anita- I’ve already ordered a used copy. You don’t need to share the cost. I will plan to read it early in April and send it on to you so that you can get it read in April, too! 😃

message 28: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 166 comments Thank you so much Jenni! I hope you will at least allow me to paypal you the shipping cost . . .many, many thanks!! I am travelling but will pm you my address when I return. If the cost of the used copy turns out to be higher than expected I am very happy to help out.

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 570 comments Dianne wrote: "Leni where is that? Sounds awesome!"

Hay-on-Wye is just on the Welsh side of the border with England. It's an amazing place! Turns out I didn't find Georg Henig there (but I did find The Roots of Heaven, which I've also been looking for, so woohoo!) I've ordered a copy of Georg Henig from amazon, for £12 or so, because Hay has made it hard to stop buying books. LOL (And I found so many good deals there, so I figure I can spend a bit extra.)

George P. | 726 comments I got my copy of A Ballad for Georg Hening today (university library- looks as though it's never been read) and started it- it's short and seems like it could be read in a day if one wanted to.

message 34: by Connie (new)

Connie D | 91 comments I'd like to try to read A Ballad for Georg Henig and have put a request in for it. However, that probably means I'll read it in May...

I've heard Titus Groan is good too.

Kelly_Hunsaker_reads ... | 902 comments Is anyone able to share a copy of Ballad for Georg with me. I cannot find one anywhere that I can afford.

I could moderate for Ballad for Georg Henig if needed. I've already read half. I don't think I can create the thread though, some glitch with my email.

Thanks George, one of the admins will set up the thread for you.

Thanks. In Broken April, another 1001 book I read last year- by an Albanian writer, one of the main characters is also named Georg.
