We could expand it to Irish men or women mentioned in the lyrics, not just the title.EDIT - and why does it have to be anyone famous? It could be any Irish person e.g. Steve Earle's "Galway Girl" and "Immigrant Eyes".
I guess we can be free to do what folks wanna do with it...unless others feel we should stick to the theme as easytiger suggested? The zealots amongst us might get upset! :)
I was googling and had a laugh at this comment about sad Irish songs:"What really tears at my heartstrings is any song by U2, because they all demonstrate that Irish children can't afford guitar lessons."
All I can find is irish ballad songs...not my cup o' char. :-(
I suppose I have a bit of an advantage with being exposed to Irish bands and culture for the last 10 years or so. So, if you're stuck, I have loads of metal suggestions :-)
Plenty Irish bands/singers wrote songs about their own experiences - Gary Moore, Van Morrison, The Pogues, Stiff Little Fingers, etc. To my mind "I" is a named Irishman/woman.

Okay..a tad late....but here we go then. Not a bad turn out for easy's swan song theme, and a nice round 15 tracks means we still get to keep the 5 votes each.I hope that those of you that are in the North and East of the UK are holding up okay, as the 'Beast from the East', makes it's presence felt (Who comes up with these daft names?!). I'm taking some comfort in the fact that not a flake of snow has yet to fall on my corner patch of South West Wales, so far....but I don't expect to get much, an inch at the most, maybe..the coastal parts of Pembrokeshire rarely ever does get much.
So, if the country has turned white where you are, then take care out there folks...and avoid driving if you can....I once experienced losing control of a car in icy conditions...fortunately managed to steer the car away from danger on that occasion...but one could say it was 'underwear changing' scary!
Stay safe folks, don't do anything I would do, & enjoy the toons!

Been coming down thick and fast since last night and it's still snowing. Must be about 6 inches or more now. This is by far the snowiest winter I've experienced since I moved here in Dec 2003. Last time I saw this much snow was in Cowbridge in 1982! According the Welsh news reports, South Glamorgan is pretty much stuffed at the moment, having had the highest snow falls of the UK, currently.
What a winter eh! Stay safe folks..and don't drive if you can avoid it....our standard tyres aren't fit for this kind of weather. And yet so many muppets will try to carry on as nothing has changed. I was sadden to hear of a 7yo that got killed by an out of control motorist, that ran her over, then crashed into a house.
And some idiot who thought it was necessary to take his 4 kids to Maccy D's, but then got stuck......we just don't get it do we. It's not as if the Met Office hasn't given us plenty of prior warning!

Evening folks!
So...we come to easytiger's final nomination - Songs about Irishmen, noms must have the name of an Irishman/men in the title.
Now then...I must confess to two things, 1) I haven't got the foggiest idea what to nom for this round, and alas our fallen comrade easytiger fell behind from the convoy that made it's way to Goodread's in October, so we'll have to figure this one out for ourselves.
2) I can't help but feel that this theme is somewhat sexist! Wot no women! So un-PC!! Ladies...feel free to complain, since easytiger can't answer back! So...at the risk of a backlash from you lot...I thought I might suggest tweaking this theme a tad, to include Irishwomen too...equality rules an all that! :-)
