Book One Description: Seventeen-year-old Rema lives in a brutal kingdom where travel between regions is forbidden, people are starving, and looking at someone the wrong way can mean death. Nineteen-year-old Darmik is the king’s son and Commander of the King’s Army. He spends his days roving the island, doing his father’s bidding and trying to maintain control over the people.

When a chance encounter throws Rema and Darmik together, they share an instantaneous connection, but any sort of relationship between them is strictly forbidden. Darmik’s brother, the Crown Prince, notices Darmik’s interest in Rema and, in a calculated, political move, blackmails her. Faced with an impossible choice, Rema is forced to sacrifice her heart in order to save her family.

As Rema is taken to the palace with the Crown Prince, Darmik confronts the growing rumor that a legitimate blood heir to the throne exists and is trying to overthrow Darmik’s family. In Darmik’s quest to hunt down and kill the threat, he discovers that nothing is as it seems. Locked in the king’s castle, Rema finds herself a key player in a massive power struggle. When Darmik shows up, she’s not sure if she can trust him. The line between friends, enemies, and loyalty becomes blurred. As truths are unlocked, Rema understands that she just might be the key to finding the rightful heir and restoring peace to the kingdom… if she can manage to stay alive long enough.

Ch 1: (view spoiler)[ This beginning reminded me a bit of Queen of the Tearling. Both girls are whisked away by the Captain of the Guards and placed with a couple in the woods to raise them. Not that I am complaining, it is as good a beginning as any. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 8: (view spoiler)[ I am shipping Darmik and Rema too! I also like this Neco guy (not for Rema, but he seems like a good best friend for Darmik). (hide spoiler)]

Ch 16 : (view spoiler)[ I hate Lennek. I even think his name is crappy. I hope she figures out a way to escape his clutches and fall into Darmik's arms. It is so sweet how he keeps thinking about her. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 24: (view spoiler)[ I can't believe Darmik doubts that she is insincere about her feelings. Plus, it would be a WAY messed up plan for her to pull off getting into the graces of the prince that way. Stop doubting and just follow your heart dumbass!!! (hide spoiler)]

I'm pretty confident she is not dead since she is the MC and there is another book. But I AM dying to find out how it all came about!! ahh I didn't post in here because we are way past the two week limit xD to get points for the BR

7+15 =22 (today!)

I understood it to be 15 days past the last remark, so it would be today.

I read the whole thing last night so I could get it in. Now we have another 15 days to complete the next book....I think.

I think the fact we are reading a series helps too. I know we blast through books sometimes, but most people can't be expected to complete a whole series within 15 days of the start date of the first book.

That's true! Yeah I messaged Sarah about it since I did finish it on the 19th so that would've been way before the 14/15 day mark but since I totally forgot we made this a march thread I didn't add the comments. So I asked if I could add them to get the points for the book.. I can't believe I didn't even think to look in the march thread!!

This is what Sarah messaged me back:
"its 14 days, but i usually count from the day after the last comment. so for a comment on the 7th, i would count the 8th, 9th, 10th etc. If the last comment was the 7th and you commented on the 19th then that would be fine. If you hadn't commented until today then you would have been too late as that would be 15-16 days."

So do you want to start a new thread since we both read the book this week?
