Week #11: Working the Land
Booklink: Summer's Desire by Kathleen Ball
Rating: ★★ (19/05)
This was kinda whack. Its the first book in the series but it felt like I should have known the characters from previous book. Holden O'Leary has moved his brothers to Montana for a fresh start. He is need of a nanny for the four teenage boys as his hours as a vet are basically at any hour of the day. He hires Summer, who is a local girl but has been ostracized by people in the town as she was implicated in the murder of the bar owner. The boys treated her nicely at first but were rude at times. Then the one brother accused of her stealing and kicked her out the house. She left without argument. Then Holden accuses her of something and she wants to leave. Her crazy ex comes back and she wants to leave. Then Holden's crazy ex comes to town and Summer wants to leave. And the sheriff of the town was abysmal. He was out for Summer and was looking for any reason to arrest her. This story was all over the show.

Week #11: Option one, Grizzly Adams
Booklink: Mackenzie's Mountain
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
It's clearly dated (no birth control or protection, tacky portrayal of Indians, etc) but since I knew that going it it was easy to see past it to the charm. I liked the prim, naive school teacher and her angsty half-white boyfriend and his overachieving son. The attitudes of the small town were kept within reason, and the girl who fell for Joe was also a fun character. It had a bit of a mystery so I got to feel clever when I knew whodunnit before the main characters, but in their defense I suspect all the sex they were having was a bit distracting.

Option 1

Clarissa and the Cowboy by Alix Nichols

How it fits: #58 on Love on the Range: Romance Novels Set on Ranches

Review: Nathan Girault is a dairy farmer who has taken a fancy to an archaeologist who gives tours in a local cave. Penelope Mueller enjoys her job for the Darcy Grotto, and she knows the cowboy who keeps coming to her tour is hot for her. But she's not getting involved with a hick! Until the two get locked in the cave overnight and she realizes Nathan is more than he seems. This was a short and sexy read - not much to it, but it was okay.

Hi SandyL,
Don't forget to change the Selection Post to Completion Post. Jane might be a stickler for rulers today.

How did I miss that...right in plain sight!
Katherine are you out there?

Heartbreaker, Linda Howard
★★★
Review: I enjoyed the read, but found myself thinking it wasn’t the complete package I usually feel when I read Linda Howard.
The start of the book portrayed an awful MC in John Rafferty. The transition from rough and cranky to the ‘heartbreaker’ at the end of the story wasn’t very smooth.
Michelle Cabot who’s the self proclaimed spoiled rich girl yet completely misunderstood is actually a fairly decent character. Her ex is a complete wacko and makes the story interesting.
This was an Audible Romance freebie...with my paid subscription of course...I thought the narrator was pretty good...Amy Landon.

Exactly!
I've learned to look at the dates -- I read that Nora Roberts last week and was really uncomfortable, and at the end I realized that it was a recent reprint that had been written decades before! That explained why they didn't bother to carry cell phones, all the smoking, and most of his obnoxious behavior.
This time I knew what I was in for and could relax and enjoy Wolf's hotness.

Completion Post

Bookcover/link: Trials of Death
Rating: 4 stars
Completed: 19/5/18
Review:
Darren Shan are lead pre-teen half vampire, assistant to vampire Mr Crepsley. Darren agrees to prove his worthiness to the vampire clan and the Vampire Princes by undertaking a series of trials; to test your agility, cunning and intelligence. Failure means death. Whilst this is going on the vampaneze have infiltrated the vampire's stronghold. The action scenes were excellent, detailed and nail-grinding - I felt so bad for Darren. I didn't see it coming on who betrayal the vamps, so it shocked me. I wish I knew more details about the Guardians of the Blood and their beliefs.
